Few days before the Press Council Chief Markandey Katju had challenged the government’s decision to amend the eligibility criteria for a person getting the India’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna. The new law says that Bharat Ratna will be awarded in recognition of exceptional service/performance of the highest order “in any field of human endeavor”. By this recent amendment, the way has been paved for sports persons and film stars to receive this dignified award. But Katju feels that that cricketers and film stars should not be given Bharat Ratna as they have no social relevance.

It is interesting to note that Katju ji should also realize that both the legendary from the field of sports and entertainment has been very successful person. There is no doubt about the remarkable contribution in their specific fields. They are really role models for young generation. The fans of both the celebrities have high expectations from them and it is hoped that they will surely fulfill their desire in the years to come.
