Pracheen Kala Kendra organized its 4th quarterly Baithak in New Delhi under the series “Legends of Tomorrow” at Amaltas Auditorium, in collaboration with India Habitat Centre Ms. Amrita Dutta. , a young and talented artist of Delhi presented vocal recital and Spectacular Samarjit Sen cast magical spell with his soothing Sitar recital.
Amrita Dutta Born in a family of high musical aptitude in the year 1983 in the north-eastern part of India in a small town Silchar encircled by the lush green valley of Borail Range, Amrita Dutta Mazumdar absorbed music with her very first breath. Her intrinsic aptitude for music started to show at the precocious age of five and she started learning vocal music from Srimati Pramita Nandi, a renowned vocal artist. She acquired a Masters Degree in Vocal Classical Music (Kheyal) from Ravindra Bharati University, Kolkata in the year 2007 securing First Class.Currently she is pursuing PhD in Music at University of Delhi under the guidance of Dr. Prateek Chaudhuri. She specializes in Thumri, Kajri, Chaiti, Dadra, Bhajan and Hori. She also learnt Sufiana Kalam from Ustad Miraz Ahmed of Quiwal Bacche Gharana and Delhi Gharana.
Amrita began recital with Aalap of popular raga Abhogi set to vilambit ek taal and drut laya in teen tal. Amrita was impressive in establishing a rapport with the receptive audience in the next Dadra with bols “Sawariya pyare re mori guniy”a set to rag ‘Pilu’. . She concludes with Meera Bhajan “Mai re main to Girdhar ke ghar jaun” . Amrita enthralls the city audience by her soothing and melodious voice. She was well accompanied by Bivakar Choudhury on Tabla & Zakir Dholpuri on harmonium.
Born in 1983, Smarajit entered the world of music at a very tender age under the tutelage of Late Prof. Sukumar Chanda and later Pt.Buddhadeb Dasgupta. He participated in many competitions and music festivals and came out with flying colours. He completed his Masters in Music with first class. He is also A-Grade artist of All India Radio and TV. Surrounded by different forms of music he developed his own unique style. His signature is evident in his debut album.
He evolves a vibrant, lovely tone from instrument which is consistently tuneful and particularly adept at pulling wavy ‘harkat’ from the stretched strings.
Samarjit began recital with the quiet dignity of the methodical and reposeful alap in Raga Darbari Kanhara.. This was followed by jod-alap and jod-jhala which were a variant of the usual Sitar playing. His touch, strokes, glides and subsequent production of tonal and microtonal effects points to his sound training. Samar’s sensitive yet controlled handling of the instrument was testimony to his talent and dedication to music. His rhythmic and melodic vitality shone throughout his performance.
He then moved on to present to two gats. The vilambit gat followed by drut (fast) composition were set to teen tal. His beautiful rendition kept the audience wanting more. Samar concluded his recital with famous Thumri composed by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan “Ka Karun Sajni Aaye na Balam” in Raga Irani Bhairavi amid thunderous applause. Kendra’s Registrar Dr. Shobha Koser and Secretary Shri Sajal Koser honored the artists.
