You look around and are bound to be struck in awe. Among the 65 participants, all of whom who have gathered for the AIFF Coaching Seminar, there are former players all around; players whom we all have adored over the years.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s Prasanta Banerjee, there\u2019s Godfrey Pereira, there\u2019s Tanumoy Basu, there\u2019s Khalid Jamil, there\u2019s Syed Sabir Pasha, there\u2019s Savio Medeira, there\u2019s Aqueel Ansari, there\u2019s Noushad Moosa\u2026the list just seems to have no end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

\nOn Monday morning, the reason for their gathering \u2013 the Seminar, kicked-off in Navi Mumbai. The Seminar, first of its kind in India, aims to produce better coaches and players with \u2018match related approach.\u2019<\/p>\n

AIFF Technical Director Rob Baan conducted the first session of the Seminar, his \u2018vision to develop Indian Football.\u2019 That was followed by National Coach Wim Koevermans\u2019 session in the afternoon \u2013 \u2018What is Football?\u2019 while Baan\u2019s practical session, \u2018Coaching, the Match related Approach,\u2019 stayed the last session of the day.<\/p>\n

The India U-17 National squad who trains at the Centre of Excellence in Goa and has come over to Navi Mumbai to take part in the practical sessions stayed Baan\u2019s wards as the Technical Director demonstrated the \u2018Match Related Approach,\u2019 and had interactive sessions with the Coaches.<\/p>\n

Earlier, AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das welcomed the guests and spoke on the \u2018Long term future of Indian Football,\u2019 while guest speaker, former India Captain Bhaichung Bhutia shared his experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s imperative we all understand the future philosophy of Indian football,\u201d Das said. \u201cThe Seminar stays a significant step taken by our Technical Team as we need to look forward,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Education stays perhaps the most significant aspect if we are to create an Indian style of play as we have intended,\u201d Baan stressed. \u201cTo improve the standard of the football in the country, we need to select the best players. But prior to that, we need to train and groom them. We as Coaches stay responsible for that,\u201d O\u2019Donell, who will be conducting both theoretical and practical sessions in the next four days, emphasized.<\/p>\n

The theoretical sessions are being held at the Royal Orchid Hotel in Navi Mumbai while the practical sessions at the Father Agnel ground, where the first AIFF Regional Academy is based. National Coach Wim Koevermans maintained the Seminar gives one an opportunity to \u201cexpress himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next five-days are important. The philosophy needs to be understood by all,\u201d Koevermans, who was a part of the Dutch squad which win the European Cup in 1988, opined.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s not stay stuck in the 60s and the 70s. Let\u2019s embrace the new concepts,\u201d Bhaichung commented. \u201cFrom my experience, I have starved for the right kind of training for long. This initiative by AIFF is an excellent one. It\u2019s the right beginning,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
