\nA series of events including Road Safety Walk at India gate, Road safety conclave, a seminar on pursuing Four E\u2019s in Road safety, essay competition for school students on road safety and running of campaign on dos and don\u2019ts regarding road safety on social media will mark the observation of 28th Road Safety Week from January 9 -15 in the National Capital Delhi.<\/div>\n

The week will open with a Road Safety walk from India Gate in the capital on Monday January 9. The union minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari along with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P.Nadda, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel, and Delhi Transport Minister Shri Satendra Jain will participate in the walk.<\/p>\n

The Road Safety Week is observed every year across the country in the month of January to spread awareness and involve people-mostly youth and children about road safety . The theme of this years road safety week is ‘Accident is painful, safety is gainful\u2019. India accounts for 11 per cent of global road accident deaths with about 1.46 lakh fatalities, highest in the world.<\/p>\n

\n” Despite road accident deaths have plummeted from 2,153 in 2010 to 1,532 in 2015 in Delhi, the national capital still has the dubious distinction of recording the highest number of road deaths,” said Mr K K Kapila, chairman, Geneva based International Road Federation (IRF), Global body working for better and safer roads world wide.<\/div>\n

\u201cInternational Road Federation along with active support of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and various other agencies including National Highway Authority of India, Delhi Government and Delhi police is organizing a day long seminar on \u2018Pursuing 4Es for Road Safety \u2013 in the Mission Mode\u2019 on January 13 . The Four E\u2019s in road safety include Education, Enforcement, Engineering (roads as well as Vehicles) and Emergency care\u201d said Mr Kapila.<\/div>\n

\nThe subjects that will be discussed at the seminar to reduce road accidents in capital and rest of country safe urban ,rural and hill roads, trauma care management ,emergency care, role of traffic management through Intelligent Transport System ,vehicle inspection and retrofitting and road safety education in current curriculum in schools .<\/p>\n

The speakers at the seminar will include Mr Sanjay Mitra, secretary, Ministry of road Transport and Highways, Mr. Yudhvir Singh Malik, IAS, Chairman \u2013 NHAI, Co-Chairman, Mr. Anand Kumar, IAS, Managing Director \u2013 NHIDCL, Mr. Ratan Watal, Advisor, Niti Aayog, Mr. Abhay Damle, Jt.
