More than 80,000 people of all age-groups were seen busy\nbuying their favourite books. Many participated in literary and cultural\nactivities being organised at the Fair. There were long queues of book lovers,\npatiently waiting their turn at the Hall entry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities\nat the NDWBF today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55554\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CEOSpeak<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nsignature event organised on the sidelines of New Delhi World Book Fair,\nCEOSPEAK OVER CHAIRMAN\u2019S BREAKFAST,&nbsp; by National Book Trust, India in\nassociation with FICCI, hosted the first-ever an India-Emirati Publishing Forum\nat the Hotel Ashoka today in conjunction with the Guest of Honour Presentation\nof Sharjah at the Fair.&nbsp;H.E. Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Executive\nChairman of the Department of Governmnet Relations, Sharjah was present on the\noccasion as a Distinguished Guest. Welcoming a 125+ strong&nbsp;congregation of\nCEOs, MDs, Senior Publishing Professionals of India, Emirates, and also from\nChina, France, Poland, Sri Lanka etc, Shri&nbsp;Baldev Bhai Sharma, Chairman,\nNBT,&nbsp;said that Indian\u2019s relations with the UAE were age-old and through\nthe World Book Fair, NBT was striving to strengthen these bonds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55559\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving\nhis key-note address, Mr. Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman, Sharjah Book\nAuthority,&nbsp;invited Indian publishers to take advantage of the low\nlogistical costs offered by Sharjah publishing city. Mr. Ali Al Shaali, Vice\nPresident, Emirates Publishers Association &amp; CEO Alhudhud Publishing\nHouse,&nbsp;said that with its focus on publishing, Sharjah has emerged as a\nleading city in realising the UAE\u2019s vision of becoming a global hub for the\ncreative industries. Mr. Dilip Chenoy, Secretary General, FICCI,&nbsp;said that\nIndia was the second-largest English language print book publisher in the\nworld. Making a presentation on Indian publishing scene, Mr. Vikrant Mathur,\nDirector India &amp; Asia Pacific Nielsen Book,&nbsp;said that the total&nbsp;trade\nmarket in India was worth&nbsp;INR 24.0 billion and growing at a CAGR of\n8.5%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nthe second session, a panel discussion on &#8216;India-Emirati Co-operation in\nPublishing&#8217; was held. Moderated by Shri Ratnesh Jha, MD, Cambridge University\nPress, the participants included Ms. Sayoni Basu, Ms. Atiya Zaidi, and Mr. Ravi\nDee Cee from India; and Mr. Ali Al Shaali, and Mr. Tamer Al Sayed, MD, Kalimat\nPublishing from the Emirates. The engaging panel discussion was followed by a\nquestion-answer sessions. On behalf of NBT, Shri Kumar Vikram, Editor &amp;\nProject In-charge made closing remarks at the Forum which was anchored by Shri\nSumit Gupta, Senior Director, FICCI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55557\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theme Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nTheme presentation of New Delhi World Book Fair 2019, &#8216;Books for Readers with\nSpecial Needs&#8217; brings to light the life and struggles, the trials and triumphs,\njoy and despair of a very significant part of human society who are called\ndifferently-abled or the <em>Divyangjan<\/em>. The Theme focuses on the reading\nneeds of the Readers with Special Needs. The idea is to project the aspirations\nas well as the achievements of this special community in order to develop a\nbetter understanding about them among the people at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;\nspecially designed Pavilion is disabled-friendly with steel\nrailings and wheel chairs. Sign language interpreters are also there for\nvisitors at the Pavilion. An exclusive exhibition\nof 500 books including Braille books, audio books, silent books, tactile books,\nintegrated print-braille books, books for differently-abled, children with\nsight or ear impairment, autistic kids, children\/readers with ADHD,\nbehavioural\/psychological problems\/anxieties is one of the major highlights of\nthe Theme Pavilion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55558\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A specially designed Experience\nAccessibility Booth by Microsoft is the centre of attraction at the\nPavilion.&nbsp;&nbsp; Divided into four parts, the\nbooth provides a glimpse of various software which are available for visually\nimpaired, hearing impaired, readers with ADHD and mobility disorders. While coming\nto the booth, one realizes the fact that technology has made&nbsp; both writing and reading easy for the persons\nwith special needs. Besides there is an exhibition of various tools and\nmaterials like geometry kits, Braille slates, etc. for visually impaired\npersons. The exhibition has been put up by All India Confederation of the\nBlinds. The paintings by visually impaired children and artists add colour to\nthe pavilion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the day, several programmes were\norganised at the pavilion including a painting programme for visually impaired\nchildren. The programme was organised by NBT and Inside Me. Ms Shivani\nBharadwaj conducted the session and helped children demonstrate their drawing\nskills. Later, a dance programme was presented by the children of Pingalwada\nFoundation, who were dancing on the instructions of the sign interpreter, as\nthey could not hear the music. Moreover, everyday documentary films focusing on\nthe Theme are also screened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair7.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55555\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children&#8217;s Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\nstorytelling session and a creative writing workshop was organised at the\nChildren&#8217;s Pavilion, especially for children with special needs. The session\nwas conducted by well-known children&#8217;s authors Devendra Mewari and Manjari\nShukla. They narrated several interesting stories to entertain the\nchildren.&nbsp; Children from various NGOs and\nschools including Noida Deaf Society (NSD) and Jaago Teens participated in the\nsession. The storytelling session was followed by a creative writing workshop.\nDuring the session, the authors explained how to create and write a story. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55560\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jaago\nTeens organised an interactive session for children. During the session,\nchildren were informed about digital games. With the help of different digital\ntools, children with special needs played digital games. The children followed\nthe instructions easily and were happy to learn the art of playing games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To\nmark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a storytelling session on\nGandhi ji&nbsp; was organised. Through his\nstories, Dr Ved Mitra enlightened children about the life of Gandhi ji and his\nprinciples of peace and non-violence.&nbsp;\nBesides Jaishree Sethi, well-known storyteller also engaged the children\nwith her stories full of imagination and amusing characters. The session was\norganised by Institute for Research in Indian Wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other Activities <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KavitaKosh.org,\nthe largest online repository of Indian literature, organised a panel\ndiscussion on literature and its interrelation in different Indian languages at\nHall no. 12. The panelists on the occasion were: Prasoon Latant, Amrendra Nath\nTripathi, Hari Narayan Singh, Kailash Mishra, Sanjeev Kumar Mukesh, Shruti Puri\nand Vinay Bhushan. The speakers discussed about the interrelation between\nvarious Indian languages like Angika, Awadhi, Bajjika, Maithili, Magahi, Brij\nand Bhojpuri. At the end of the programme, panelists were presented with\nmementos and Kavita Kosh calendar 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair9.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55556\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A children&#8217;s reading\nworkshop about the biography of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, the\nRuler of Sharjah, was held at the International Events Corner. The workshop was\norganised by Arab Children&#8217;s Book Publishers Forum.&nbsp;The panelists include\nDr Saleha Ghabish, author; Ashraf Shahin,&nbsp;Vice-President&nbsp;and Aisha\nHamad Mughwer, General Secretary, Arab Children&#8217;s Book Publishers Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\naddition, many dignitaries visited the book fair including the High\nCommissioner of Bangladesh, High Commissioner of Pakistan, as well as noted\nwriters like Ashok Chakradhar, Narendra Kohli, Siddhaarth Basu among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the rain and cold Sunday, a large number of people thronged the New Delhi World Book Fair today.
