People\nof all age-groups could be seen carrying bags of various hues weighed down with\nthe number of books in each. The business was thriving and the publishers could\nbe seen happy although busy handling customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, a number of government\npublishing houses including NCERT, Sahitya Akademi, Publications Division,\nICHR, Jawaharlal Nehru University, CAPEXIL, Indian Agricultural Research\nInstitute, National Institute of Open Schooling,&nbsp;&nbsp;Central Hindi\nDirectorate, Commission for&nbsp;&nbsp;Scientific and Technical Terminology,\nPunjabi Academy, National&nbsp;&nbsp;Council for Promotion of Urdu\nLanguage,&nbsp;&nbsp;National Council for Promotion of Sindhi\nLanguage&nbsp;&nbsp;among others are participating. The stalls of these\ngovernment organisations are drawing attention of the readers as they can buy\nquality books at reasonable prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/World-Book-Fair1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55614\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theme Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A panel discussion on &#8216;Readers\nwith&nbsp;&nbsp;Special Needs: Issues and Challenges&#8217; was organised at the Theme Pavilion. Moderated by Dr G N Karan,\nthe other speakers on the occasion were Dr Kusumlata Malik, Dr Shailaja\nChennat, Dr S K Prasad, Dr Ashima Nehra, Dr Anju Kakkar and Dr R K Sarin. The\nspeakers discussed about the various issues related to the persons with special\nneeds including accessibility, low-cost textbooks for students, need for\nculture of inclusive learning in the society, the rights of differently-abled\naccording to the Constitution of India.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/World-Book-Fair5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55615\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A discussion on the theme of the book fair &#8216;Books for Readers\nwith Special Abilities&#8217; was organised. Moderated by Shri Irfan, Rajya Sabha TV\nand host of popular show <em>Guftagu<\/em>; the\nother speakers on the occasion were Prof. Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Chairman, NBT;\nShri Rajesh Yadav, Hindi Officer and in-charge of Production at Mahatma Gandhi\nAntarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya; and Shri Lalit Kumar, Founder of Kavita\nKosh and recipient of&nbsp;&nbsp;National Award&nbsp;for persons with\ndisabilities; and Shri Balendu Sharma Dadhich, Senior Product Manager,\nMicrosoft. Talking about the theme of the book fair, Prof. Baldeo Bhai Sharma\nsaid that this year&#8217;s theme has been chosen to create a sense of respect and\nequality for persons with special need. He said that over 500 books by\ndifferent publishers have been exhibited on the theme, in addition to the\nseveral literary and cultural programmes that are being organised in\nwhich&nbsp;&nbsp;noted differently-abled celebrities are participating.&nbsp;Shri\nRajesh Yadav talked about the publishing programme of&nbsp;&nbsp;Mahatma Gandhi\nAntarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, while Shri Balendu informed about the\nvarious tools being developed by Microsoft. Shri Lalit Kumar remarked that\naccessibility is one of the major issues which need to be\naddressed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/World-Book-Fair7.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55620\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>in an interesting\nsession, the noted journalist Shri Anant Vijay interacted with Ms Sonal\nMansingh, renowned classical dancer. She talked about how the steps taken by\nNBT to shed light on such a sensitive topic has touched her heart. Ms Sonal Man\nSingh also said how symbols are the best form of sending out messages, as per her\nexperience in dance industry, as words can be wrongly interpreted but not\nsymbols. Prof. Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Chairman, NBT also spoke on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/World-Book-Fair6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55617\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>International Events\nCorner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A discussion on &#8216;Latin America Experience: How to Apply this\nExperience in India and Other markets?&#8217; was organised by Sharjah Book Authority\nat the Sharjah Pavilion. The discussion focused on how much successful have\ncultural and literary exchange of Emirates been with other countries of the\nworld; Latin America and Brazil in particular. Besides, there was a discussion\non &#8216;India in the Arabic Manuscripts&#8217; where Dr Hamad bin Saray&nbsp;said that\nIndia has had a prominent position in the Arabic\nmanuscripts.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ancient works do mention different aspects related to\nIndia like Hind-Sindh trade, Arab kings&#8217; love for Indian swords. He also\ninformed that poets like Hasan bin Zabbit has written a lot about India, Indian\nsandalwood, spices, rice etc. Several travelogues in past had also been\nwritten, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Literary Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noted writer Surendra Nath Pathak talked about &#8216;Crime, Women and\nNation&#8217; at an event held at Authors&#8217; Corner (Hall 8). He was of the view that\npeople who do heinous crimes against women should be shown no mercy. The\nmoderator questioned the author about his series &#8216;Sunil&#8217;; and why he chose the\ncriminal in the series to be a journalist, to which his replied that he didn&#8217;t\nwant to copy the trend of other writers and bring in a new perspective of\ncriminals, shifting the focus from the most common criminals to the most\nneglected ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/World-Book-Fair3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55616\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At Author&#8217;s Corner, Hall no. 8, the book &#8216;Pultizer at 16&#8217;,\nwritten by an upcoming author, Abhishek Behera, was released. The event was\norganised by Blue Rose Publications. The young author, at the age of just 16,\npenned down an amazing book, about a boy and his journey to achieve &#8216;Pultizer&#8217;,\nan award for journalism, literature and music. Abhishek in his interview spoke\nabout the hurdles he faced and how he left no stone unturned to get his book\npublished.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An interaction with acid attack survivor, Reshma\nQureshi&nbsp;&nbsp;and Tania Singh, an activist was also organised at the\nAuthors&#8217; Corner. While talking about her book, &#8216;Being Reshma&#8217;, she said that\nshe was attacked when she was just 17-years-old by her own brother-in-law.\nHowever, she said that she has left her dark past behind with her achievements.\nShe has started a campaign called &#8216;Beauty Tips by Reshma.&#8217; Tania Singh remarked\nthat today&#8217;s India is changing towards such survivors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children&#8217;s Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several programmes for children were organised at the Children&#8217;s\nPavilion including a workshop on how to make a magazine by Anuvrat Global\nOrganisation; illustration workshop by NBT in which Prof. Manjula Chaturvedi\nfrom Kashi Vidyapeeth gave a few tips to children to make attractive sketches.\nShe informed that in prehistoric times, human beings used to communicate\nthrough the medium of paintings. Later, a panel discussion on children&#8217;s\nliterature was organised by Sahitya Akademi in which the speakers were:\nRajnikant Shukla, Dr Madhu Pant and Rajendra Jain. In addition, Rajiv Gandhi\nFoundation organised a Mime Performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/dwarkaparichay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/World-Book-Fair4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55619\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foreign Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The booklovers are\ndelighted to find books literature from across the world. They can find\nbiography of Max Mueller and Goeth, books on Second World War, Miguel de\nCervantes, among others. Readers of Hindi literature are also happy to find\nHindi translations of world literature.&nbsp;Over 20 countries including Abu\nDhabi, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Kenya, Japan, Iran, Italy,\nMexico, Pakistan, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Sharjah, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka,\nUSA and International agencies like UNESCO, etc. are participating in the Fair.\nThey are housed at the Foreign Pavilion, Hall No. 7ABC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, there is\nan interesting poster exhibition on Octavio Paz showcased at Hall 7 by the\nEmbassy of Mexico in India. Octavio Paz achieved the confluence of two strong\ncultural rivers, the Mexican and the Indian. The union of the two shaped a\npoetic work so important that years later it was awarded the Nobel Prize. On\nthe 50th anniversary of his departure from India and 20 years after his death,\ngraphic designers from both the countries concur creating posters based on his\npoetic word in this poster exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, Sharjah is the Guest of Honour at New Delhi World\nBook Fair. The beautifully&nbsp; designed\nPavilion is attracting a large number of visitors at the Fair. One of the major\nhighlights of the Guest of Honour presentation is the exhibition of books.
