C. Goyal<\/strong>, IAS, Chairman &amp;\nManaging Director, ITPO and <strong>Ms Neera\nJain,<\/strong> Director, NBT will also be present on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs\npart of Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s 150<sup>th<\/sup> birth anniversary celebrations, this\nyear the Theme of the New Delhi World Book Fair is <strong>Gandhi: The Writers\u2019 Writer<\/strong>,\u201d announced Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma,\nChairman, NBT while addressing the media at a Press Conference held at Constitution\nClub, New Delhi on 2 January 2020. He added that the Theme would highlight the\nvarious facets of Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s life and his influence on writers of all\nages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking\nabout the important features of NDWBF 2020, Prof. Sharma said that this year,\nover 600 exhibitors in different languages including Bangla, English, Gujarati,\nHindi, Maithili, Malayalam, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu\nwill exhibit their books in over 1300 stalls at the Fair. He also said that in\naddition to business sessions, several literary and cultural activities\nincluding seminars, book release functions, panel discussions, etc. will be\npart of the Fair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting\nabout the need to save our tribal languages from being extinct, Prof. Sharma\nsaid that India is the land of many languages. However, he said, that the\ntribal languages and the oral tradition of storytelling are fading away. In its\nefforts to save these languages, NBT has been publishing books in these\nlanguages as well as organizes several activities to promote them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>In\nhis address, Prof. Sharma also urged the media to play an active and creative\nrole in promoting books and the habit of reading. While informing that the Fair\nwill be open to the public from 11.00 am to 8.00 pm, Prof. Sharma said that the\nentry for school children in uniform, senior citizens and differently-abled\nwill be free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri\nRajesh Agarwal, IAS, Executive Director, ITPO also spoke on the occasion. He\nsaid that ITPO has made special efforts to make book fair more visitor\nfriendly.&nbsp; Shri Madan Mohan, Additional\nDirector General, Ministry of Human Resource Development was also present on\nthe occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier,\nMs Neera Jain, Director, NBT welcomed the guests present on the occasion. She\ninformed the audience that more than 600 publishers across 1300 stalls will be\npresent at the fair across 23,000 square metres. The Fair will also see\nparticipation from about 20 foreign countries. She also spoke about the new\ninitiatives of NBT to promote young authors including Navlekhan Protsahan Yojana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More\nDetails about attractions of the Fair:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theme\nPavilion<\/strong>: This year, the\ntheme of the New Delhi World Book Fair 2020 is \u2018<strong>Gandhi: The Writers\u2019 Writer<\/strong>\u2019 to commemorate the 150th Birth\nAnniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was a prolific\nwriter, editor, publisher, Printer and Institution Builder. He wrote\nextensively in Gujarati, Hindi and English languages. His writings not only\nreflected his philosophy of non-violence and peace but also gave an insight\ninto the socio-economic and political scenario of the country. The theme is an\nattempt to give booklovers a glimpse of how Mahatma Gandhi, a great strategic\ncommunicator, inspired and influenced generations of writers and how the\nwriters understood and emulated Gandhiji in words. In the specially designed\npavilion (inspired by Sabarmati Ashram), with hand-spun materials as wall\ncladding; there will be an exclusive exhibition of 500 books of 100 publishers on\nand by Gandhi in different Indian languages, as well as 30 panel discussions, book\nlaunches and performances related to the theme. The archival materials on\ndisplay at the Theme pavilion are from Navjivan Trust, Ahmedabad and National\nGandhi Museum, New Delhi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Authors\u2019\nCorners \/ Seminar Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Some of the well-known writers both popular\nand critically acclaimed like Anirban Ganguly, Bhawana Sommaya, Kevin Missal,\nMadhulika Dutta,&nbsp; Manoshi Sinha Rawal,\nSudha Murthy, Sumit Dutt Majumdar, among others will engage in lively banters\nwith the visitors at Authors\u2019 Corners. There will be three special Corners\nwhich include <em>International Events Corner<\/em>\n(Hall No. 7A), <em>Reflections (Hall No. 8) <\/em>and<em> Lekhak Manch (Hall No. 12)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Fair, various\nliterary events, discussions, conversation with authors &amp; scholars, book\nrelease functions, children&#8217;s activities, film screenings on the theme of the\nfair, cultural programmes, etc. will be organized. Some of the well-known\nspeakers who will participate in these programmes include, Dr Rakesh Pande, Dr Varsha\nDas, Shri Aflatoon, Shri Avinash Dudhe, Shri Firoz Khan, Ms Fouzia Khan, Shri\nSuresh Sharma, Shri Rajeev Shrivastava, Shri Rajeev Raj, Ms Shashiprabha\nTewari, Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, &nbsp;Prof.\nRizwan Kaisar, Dr M William Bhaskaran, Dr T Ravichandran, Dr Sachidanand Joshi,\nformer Justice Narendra Chapalgaonkar, Ms Deena Patel, Shri Annamalai, Dr Sumer\nSingh Siddhu, Dr Khushwant Singh Bargadi, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Braille Books: <\/strong>National\nBook Trust, India in collaboration with the All India Confederation of Blind\n(AICB) has jointly published a set of books in Braille for visually impaired\nreaders. So far, over 250 books in Hindi, English and other Indian languages\nhave been published. To take the project further, the NBT and AICB have signed\nan MOU, under which more titles shall be published in Braille in different\nIndian languages as part of NBT\u2019s annual publishing programme. A\ncatalogue of these books in Braille as well bilingual catalogue in English and\nHindi have also been brought out by NBT. A special exhibit of these books will\nalso be put up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s Pavilion<\/strong>: At the Children\u2019s Pavilion (Hangar near\nHall No. 7H), a number of activities like seminars, panel discussions,\nstorytelling sessions, workshops on creative writing and illustrations among\nothers will be organized to promote books and reading amongst children and&nbsp; young adults. The pavilion has been decorated\nwith specially designed panels on tactile and silent books. A special career\ncounseling session for persons with special needs will also be organized. A\nnumber of schools and NGOs will also participate in these activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foreign\nCountries<\/strong>: Over 15\ncountries including Abu Dhabi, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Iran, Nepal,\nPoland, Saudi Arabia, Sharjah, Spain, Sri Lanka, UK, USA, are participating in\nthe Foreign Pavilion at the Fair. They are housed at the Foreign Pavilion, Hall\nNo. 7ABC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>B2B\nActivities<\/strong>: New Delhi\nWorld Book Fair, also provides a platform for B2B activities for publishers\nfrom India and abroad. These B2B sessions include CEOSpeak, a Publishers Forum\nto be organized in association with FICCI on 5 January 2020; the New Delhi\nRights Table, a 2-day event to be held on 6 &amp; 7 January 2020. Over 40\npublishers from India and abroad will participate in the New Delhi Rights\nTable. In addition, a National Conclave on Readership and Book Promotion will\nbe organised on 8 January 2020, and a Business Meet with Trade Partners on 9\nJanuary 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Special Photo Exhibitions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>&nbsp;India as Guest of Honour:<\/strong> NBT has been playing a significant role in\npromoting Indian books and authors abroad. NBT regularly participates in major\ninternational book fairs like Sharjah International Book Fair, London Book\nFair, Frankfurt Book Fair, etc. Recently, India was the Guest of Honour country\nat Abu Dhabi International Book Fair held in April 2019, and at GuadalajaraInternationalBook Fair, Mexico in November 2019. India will also\nbe Guest of Honour country at forthcoming Paris Book Fair in March 2020. NBT being\nthe nodal agency, coordinates the Guest of Honour Country\nPresentations at International Book\nFairs. A special photo exhibition on the GoH Presentations &#8211; 2019-2020 will be\nput up at Hall 7A. In addition, the NBT titles translated and published in\nArabic and Spanish as part of the Guest Country Presentations, will also be put\non display.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Padhe\nBharat Badhe Bharat:<\/strong> A special photo exhibition on\nNBT\u2019s contribution in promoting books in schools and libraries under Govt. of\nIndia\u2019s programme for the school education will also be put up outside Hall No.7.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Publishers<\/strong>: This year, more than 600 publishers from\nIndia and Abroad are participating ata the book fair.
