Dr Nishank added, this <em>Mahakumbh<\/em> of books is filled with\nthoughts, the thoughts which give power to humanity. \u201cThis book fair is a place\nwhere people meet each other, and generate and share new thoughts and ideas,\u201d\nsaid Dr Nishank. He added that the books help youth of India to come across new\nthoughts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Talking\nabout the Theme of the Book Fair this year, which is GANDHI: WRITERS\u2019 WRITER, Dr\nNishank said, \u201cWe are celebrating 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi, in times when we\nneed him the most. The world today is facing several challenges including\nterrorism, and it is time the world learnt non-violence and peace from this\ngreat man.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nworld, the nation, the society and all individuals, need Gandhi because of his\nvision and his philosophy of peace and non-violence,\u201d he added. Dr Nishank also\nurged publishers to promote books and the habit of reading as people are dwindling\naway from books, and a book fair like the NDWBF ensures that books and reading\nis preserved and increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr\nNishank appreciated the fact that the New Delhi World Book Fair is arguably\nAsia\u2019s biggest book fair and he was hopeful that this fair would soon become\nthe world\u2019s biggest book fair!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Prof.\nGirishwar Misra, eminent Gandhian scholar, and the Guest of Honour on the\noccasion spoke in detail about the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof.\nGirishwar Misra said, \u201cThough a common man, Mahatma Gandhi was the Man of\nCentury\u201d. He showed the path of truth, peace and non-violence because of his\nwide reading of books including <em>Gita,\nQuran <\/em>and <em>Bible<\/em>. He imbibed the\nessence of all the knowledge he gained. &nbsp;In his writings, he could bring in universal\nideas through local wisdom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While\nwelcoming the guests, Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, NBT informed the\naudience about this edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair, and said that through\nthis world of books, one can gain more and more knowledge in different fields\nand show us new direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\nthis occasion, Shri Madan Mohan, Joint Secretary, MHRD, and Shri Rajesh\nAggarwal, Executive Director, ITPO were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While\nthanking the guests, Ms Neera Jain, Director, NBT said that \u201cFor over 60 years\nwe have been with the world of books, sharing its knowledge, culture and\ncivilizational heritage among millions of readers. &nbsp;In this long journey, NBT has continually to\nraise the bar higher and higher to fulfill our mandate, especially New Delhi\nWorld Book Fair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theme Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of the New Delhi World Book Fair 2020 is\n\u2018Gandhi: The Writers\u2019 Writer\u2019 to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary\ncelebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was a prolific writer, editor,\npublisher, Printer and Institution Builder. The theme is an attempt to give\nbooklovers a glimpse of how Mahatma Gandhi, a great strategic communicator,\ninspired and influenced generations of writers and how the writers understood\nand emulated Gandhiji in words. In the specially designed pavilion (inspired by\nSabarmati Ashram), with hand-spun materials as wall cladding; there is an\nexclusive exhibition of 500 books of 100 publishers on and by Gandhi in\ndifferent Indian languages, as well as 30 panel discussions, book launches and\nperformances related to the theme. The archival materials on display at the\nTheme pavilion are from Navjivan Trust, Ahmedabad and National Gandhi Museum,\nNew Delhi. The Pavilion has been designed by National Institute of Design,\nAhmedabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Girishwar Misra inaugurated&nbsp;the\nTheme Pavilion today in the presence of Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman,\nNBT and other dignitaries. Prof. Misra also glanced through&nbsp;the books,\npanels and posters at the pavilion. He appreciated the specially designed\npavilion reflecting the various facets of Gandhi&#8217;s life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of several literary and cultural\nprogrammes being held, a performance was held on the folk songs close to\nMahatma Gandhi&#8217;s heart, like <em>Raghupati\nRaghav Raja Ram<\/em>. The artists on the occasion, Shri Akshay Kumar Naagar,\nShri Sankalpa, Shri Tara, Shri Narendra, Ms Anjali, among others who rendered\nthese songs mesmerized the audience and helped further create the ambience of\nthe Theme Pavilion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inauguration of Children&#8217;s Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nattractively designed Children\u2019s pavilion was also inaugurated today in the\npresence of Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman National Book Trust, India,\nand Shri Manas Ranjan Mahapatra, Editor, NCCL.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children\nfrom National Bal Bhavan presented a folk medley, which also included melodious\nand mesmerizing folk songs in Punjabi, Haryanavi, Garhwali and\nRajasthani.&nbsp;Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman interacted with children\nand said that the fair would be incomplete without kids, just as a home is so\nsilent without kids. The children were overjoyed knowing that the events will\nbe organized everyday from the first day till the last, i.e. 12th January,\n2020. He also added that the happy noises of children is what makes the fair\ncome alive. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ninaugural event also had a a story telling and narration by children from\nJanjatiya Shodh Evam Vikas Sangathan titled &#8216;Adivasi Bal Kahani Vachan&#8217;. A\nTribal drawing competition, &#8216;Chitrakala&#8217; was also organized where a many\ncreative minds were busy in portrayal of tribal themes and elements related to\nthe tribal communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Author\u2019s Corner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A book release function, organised by\nSterling Publishers, was held at the Seminar Hall no. 8 (1st floor).&nbsp; Dr.\nKiran Bedi, Hon&#8217;ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry&nbsp;released the book <em>Where Kindness Spoke<\/em> authored by Shivani\nArora. The book is talks about Dr. Kiran Bedi, about her life changing events\nand how she became an inspiration for women. Shri S. K. Ghai also spoke on the\noccasion. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A session on Spiritual\nScience of Kriyayog was organised at the Author&#8217;s Corner by Yogiraj Shyamcharan\nMission. During the session, Ms Jyoti Kapur, the&nbsp;Founder President of\nYogiraj Shyamcharan Mission, informed that Kriyayoga is being practised\nby&nbsp;the saints, yogis, etc. in our country since ages. She said that\nKriyayoga consists of various techniques of prayanama, basically breathing\nprocess, to accelerate one&#8217;s spiritual development. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crowd of Booklovers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first day of the book\nfair saw a train of eager visitors thronging the fair grounds. By evening, more\nthan 60,000 people had visited the fair. They waited patiently in long queues\nto enter the fair halls of their choice and buy their favourite books.
