Dr Nishank added, this <em>Mahakumbh<\/em>\nof books is filled with thoughts, the thoughts which give power to humanity. \u201cThis\nbook fair is a place where people meet each other, and generate and share new\nthoughts and ideas,\u201d said Dr Nishank. He added that the books help youth of\nIndia to come across new thoughts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Talking about the Theme of the\nFair this year, which is GANDHI: WRITERS\u2019 WRITER, Dr Nishank said, \u201cWe are\ncelebrating 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi, in times when we need him the most. The\nworld today is facing several challenges including terrorism.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe world, the nation, the\nsociety and all individuals, need Gandhi because of his vision and his philosophy\nof peace and non-violence,\u201d he added. Dr Nishank also urged publishers to\npromote books and the habit of reading as people are dwindling away from books,\nand a book fair like the NDWBF ensures that books and reading is preserved and\nincreases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Nishank appreciated the fact\nthat the New Delhi World Book Fair is arguably Asia\u2019s biggest book fair and he\nwas hopeful that this fair would soon become the world\u2019s biggest book fair!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Girishwar Misra, eminent\nGandhian scholar, and the Guest of Honour on the occasion spoke in detail about\nthe life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Girishwar Misra said, \u201cThough a\ncommon man, Mahatma Gandhi was the Man of Century\u201d. He showed the path of\ntruth, peace and non-violence because of his wide reading of books including <em>Gita, Quran <\/em>and <em>Bible<\/em>. He imbibed the essence of all the knowledge he gained. &nbsp;Gandhi was the epitome of idea of Glocal that\nwe often discuss in today\u2019s world. In his writings, he could bring in universal\nideas through local wisdom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>While welcoming the guests, Prof.\nGovind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, NBT informed the audience about this edition of\nthe New Delhi World Book Fair, and said that through this world of books, one\ncan gain more and more knowledge in different fields and show us new direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this occasion, Shri Madan\nMohan, Joint Secretary, MHRD, and Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Executive Director,\nITPO were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While thanking the guests, Ms\nNeera Jain, Director, NBT said that \u201cFor over 60 years we have been with the\nworld of books, sharing its knowledge, culture and civilizational heritage\namong millions of readers. &nbsp;In this long\njourney, NBT has continually to raise the bar higher and higher to fulfill our\nmandate, especially New Delhi World Book Fair.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cWe are in the midst of ocean of books,\u201d said Dr Ramesh Pokkhriyal \u2018Nishank,\u2019 Hon\u2019ble Union Minister for Human Resource Development, while inaugurating the 28th edition of New Delhi World Book Fair 2020 (NDWBF) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 4 January 2020.
