Mahatma\nGandhi was a prolific writer, editor, publisher, Printer and Institution\nBuilder. The theme is an attempt to give booklovers a glimpse of how Mahatma\nGandhi, a great strategic communicator, inspired and influenced generations of\nwriters and how the writers understood and emulated Gandhiji in words. In the\nspecially designed pavilion (inspired by Sabarmati Ashram), with hand-spun\nmaterials as wall cladding; there is an exclusive exhibition of 500 books of\n100 publishers on and by Gandhi in different Indian languages, as well as 30\npanel discussions, book launches and performances related to the theme. The\narchival materials on display at the Theme pavilion are from Navjivan Trust,\nAhmedabad and National Gandhi Museum, New Delhi. The Pavilion has been designed\nby National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Focusing on the fascinating aspect of Gandhi as a\ncommunicator par excellence, the Theme Programme, Gandhi: The Writers\u2019 Writer,\nat the Theme Pavilion, gave the visitors a glimpse into craft of Gandhi\u2019s\nwritings and clarity with which he said what he had to say. As Gandhi himself\nwould say, \u201cI propagate my ideas.\u201d Gandhiji was a prolific writer. His writings\nare collected in 100 volumes. These include the articles he wrote for Harijan,\nYoung India, Indian Opinion among others. Besides Indian Home Rule, Satyagraha\nin South Africa, his booklet on Hind Swaraj, His autobiography and the numerous\nletters he wrote to and exchanged with personalities of his times like Leo\nTolstoy, Nehru, Patel, Tilak, Ambedkar, Sarojini Naidu, Hitler and Tagore,\nshows the diversity of his thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an Editor and Publisher, Gandhi was meticulous both in\nthe choice of language and words. Facsimiles at the Pavilion, display an edited\npage of Hind Swaraj and his awareness on the issues of copyright, examples of\nhis letter to Leo Tolstoy and Annie Besant. Some of the panels display Gandhi\nas a thinker and a reformer as well. The Theme Pavilion also displays a special\nexhibit of books on and by Gandhi as well as a replica of the Charkha. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Programmes\nat Theme Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A panel discussion on \u2018Building Peace and\nHarmony in a Diverse Culture\u2019 was organized. Moderated by Prof. N\nRadhakrishanan, the other speakers on the occasion included Dr T Ravichandran,\nDr M William Bhaskaran and Dr M Valliammal. The speakers shared their views on\nMahatma Gandhi\u2019s efforts in creating peace and harmony. Talking about the\nvarious methods used by Gandhi, Dr T Ravichandan said that Gandhi through his\npad-yatras and fasting, united people and tried to create harmony between them.\nProf.&nbsp; Radhakrishanan talked about Gandhiji\u2019s\nphilosophy of respecting all religions for the survival of humanity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of 550 Guru Nanak Dev\u2019s birth\nanniversary celebrations, a discussion on the writings and teachings of Guru\nNanak was organized at the Theme Pavilion. The speakers shared their views on\nhow humanism, dialogue among people, etc were an integral part of Guru Nanak\nDev\u2019s writings and teachings. The speakers included Dr Lakhwinder Johal,\nJaswant Zafar and Deepak Sharma. Later, two books titled <em>Antonio Gramsci: Jeevan Te Rachna<\/em> and <em>Sukhwinder Amrit Kavya Jagat<\/em> were released. The programme was\norganized by National Book Trust, India and Punjabi Sahitya Akademi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seminar\nHall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A panel discussion on \u2018Gandhi\u2019s Message on\nCleanliness\u2019 was organised by Delhi Public Library at the Seminar Hall. The\nspeakers talked about the role of Mahatma Gandhi in creating awareness among\npeople about cleanliness. On this occasion, Shri Vishwanath Pandey said that\nMahatma Gandhi is known for his non-violent protests and marches against the\nBritish, but rarely remembered for the cleanliness in our country. Talking\nabout Gandhi\u2019s thoughts about cleanliness, Dr Neeraj Bharadwaj said that\nMahatma Gandhi not only advocated cleanliness of the surroundings, but also\ntalked about the purity of soul. The other panelists on this occasion included\nDr. Ramsharan Gaur, Chairman, Delhi Public Library; Dr Babita Gaur, Senior\nLibrary Information Officer; and Shri Sita Ram Gupta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A workshop on &#8216;Be Happy and Empowered&#8217; was\norganised by Sawan Kripal Ruhani Mission at the Seminar Hall. The workshop\nconducted by Sheena and Nitin Demla. In this interactive session, the speakers\nwere of the view that the problems in our lives can be solved through the\nmedium of meditation only. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An\nactivity-based session was organized by Jaago Teens at the Children&#8217;s Pavilion.\nDuring the session, several images like an image of a girl, a tree and\nthunderstorm were displayed on the projector and then children were asked to\nwrite stories on these images. A large number of children from Butterfly, an\nNGO and Suraj Bhan DAV Public School participated in the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another\nsession, children from Jai Shankar Memorial Center performed three plays based\non the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Later, a storytelling session was organized by\nNational Book Trust, India where well-known storytellers Sushma Yadhuvanshi,\nAsha Sharma and Shiv Mohan Yadav narrated stories to children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A panel\ndiscussion on \u2018Children&#8217;s Literature Goes Digital,\u2019 was organised by\nWorldreader. The session began with storytelling by Vinita Pandey. The speakers\ndiscussed about how the books are being developed digitally and ebooks being\navailable on various apps. With books being available digitally, it is now much\neasier to access them anywhere and anytime the child wants, or in case a parent\nwants to read to them. The speakers on the occasion included Shri Himanshu\nGiri, Pratham Books; Bhanu Potta, Worldreader; Ganesh Subramanian, Chrysalis;\nNikhil Saraf, Stones2Milestones and Vinita Pandey, Book Talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Author\u2019s\nCorner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A discussion\non <em>Pedagogy of Synthetic Phonics<\/em> was\norganised by SAAR Education Pvt. Ltd. at Author&#8217;s Corner, Hall No. 8. Abhishek\nGoel, motivational speaker interacted with the audience on English language. He\nexplained that English language has certain rules for writing and pronunciation.\nAccording to him, in India, children follow the wrong pronunciation that their\nteachers use, as children, being young, grasp everything from their elders.\nLater, he talked about the ways through which the language can be learnt\neasily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A discussion\non publishing in India was organized by Best Book Buddies at the Author\u2019s\nCorner, Hall no. 8. The discussion focused on the future of publishing in India\nfor new authors. While interacting with the visitors, Sudhir Gandotra, CEO of\nBestBookBuddies, said that established authors do not face the problems that\nnew and young authors face in publishing. The speakers also discussed the need\nto provide platform to young authors, communicate with them, publish their\nbooks and help them connect with readers. Ms Anjana Ranjan and Rahul Shivay\nalso spoke on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Later, a\nreading session on the book<em> NH 24<\/em>,\nwas organised by Yellow Coin Communications Pvt. Ltd. The author of the book,\nNitin Yadav said that his book is based on real life stories and highlights\nsensitive issues concerning our society like child molestation, violence on\nwomen, etc. He was of the view that if these problems will not be discussed,\nthere is no scope of eliminating them as well. Nitin Yadav also read out some\nexcerpts from his book to the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lekhak Manch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A discussion\non the book <em>Amit Shah and The March of\nBJP<\/em> was organized by Bloomsbury. The book has also been published in Hindi\nentitled <em>Amit Shah Aur Bhajpa Ki Yatra<\/em>.\nDuring the session, Anurag Punetha, well-known journalist interacted with the\nauthor of the book, Anirban Ganguly and Shivanand Dwivedi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Shivanand\nDwivedi said that Amit Shah&#8217;s association with the BJP is not only from the\ndays of its achievements but from the days of the party&#8217;s struggle. Anirban\nGanguly called Amit Shah a disciplinarian among the party, workers, leaders\netc. and a communicator within and outside the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of\nWorld Hindi Day celebrations, a poets\u2019 meet was organized by Nagri Hindi Parishad\nand Hindi Ki Gunj at the Lekhak Manch. The poets enthralled the booklovers when\nthey recited poems on patriotism, women, freedom fighters, culture, city and\nvillage life, etc. The guests present on the occasion included Onkar Singh, Dr\nVinod Chauhan, Dr naresh, Dr Sandeep, Kavi Prateek, Kavi Hemant, Khemdra Singh\namong others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An interactive\ntalk with Ms Chitra Mudgal, noted author was organized by Samayik Prakashana at\nthe Lekhak Manch. Ms Mudgal talked about different aspects of her journey as an\nauthor. She said that she had been inspired a lot by Premchand and Gorky. At a\nfunction organized by Diamond Pocket Books, a number of books including <em>Urdu Ke Nau Maharathi<\/em>, by Rinkle Sharma\nand <em>Nishan Chunte Chunte<\/em> by Vivek\nMishra were released. The guests on the occasion included Javed Akhtar, Gulzar\nMunnavar Rana, Amarnath Verma, Dr Khursheed Alam, Ashok Wankhade, among others.\nIn another function organized by Prabhat Prakashan, the book <em>Deendayal Upadhayay Ki Prerak kahaniyan<\/em>\nand its English translation were released.
