He appreciated the specially designed Theme Pavilion, Gandhi: The\nWriters\u2019 Writer and the exhibit of books on and by Mahatma Gandhi at the\nPavilion. Shri Pokhriyal took a tour of the Children\u2019s Pavilion, the Foreign\nPavilion and other halls as well, exhibiting books in English, Hindi and other\nIndian languages. He was happy to interact with the booklovers at the Fair and\nappreciated the efforts of NBT in putting together this annual book event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The eighth day of the New Delhi World Fair\nsaw a huge crowd of &nbsp;more than 1.25 lakh\nbooklovers thronging the fair grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theme Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of\ndiscussions on various aspects of Gandhi were organized at Theme Pavilion. A\npanel discussion on \u2018Publishing Gandhi\u2019 was organized by National Book Trust,\nIndia in collaboration with National Gandhi Museum at the Theme Pavilion. Dr\nSadhna Rout, former Principle Director General, Publications Division talked\nabout the various stages in which the complete works of Gandhi were collected\nand reproduced. She added that it took 38 years to publish his works. Shri A.\nAnnamalai, Director, National Gandhi Museum discussed about Gandhi as a\npublisher and writer in South Africa and in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A panel discussion on\nGandhi and Punjab was organised by National Book Trust, India at the Pavilion. The\nspeakers on the occasion included Dr. Kulbeer Gojra, Dr. Charanpushpendra\nSingh, Dr. Sumel Singh Siddhu and Dr. Khushwant Singh Bargadi. During the\nsession, the experts shared their views on relationship between Mahatma Gandhi\nand the state Punjab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A panel discussion on\nGandhi\u2019s ideology was organized at the pavilion. The speakers on the occasion\nwere Shri Shrikrishna Kakade, well-known Marathi author and Shri Milind Bokil,\nnoted litterateur. Shri Bokil remarked that Gandhiji\u2019s principle of truth and\nnon-violence are relevant even today and we need to follow it for our\ndevelopment. He also talked about Gandhiji\u2019s opinion on Swaraj. Shri Kakade\nexpressed his concern over the status of tribal community in India, their\neducation and need to preserve tribal culture and languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>International Events Corner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The literary magazine Pratik was launched at\nthe International Events Corner followed by the Poetry Reading session by\nrenowned poets and launch of a book authored by Prof P. B. Sharma, Vice\nChancellor, Amity University, Gurugram. The event was moderated by Dr. Yuyutsu\nSharma, Editor, Pratik. The panelists included Mr Peter O\u2019Connor, Deputy Head\nof Mission, Embassy of Ireland to India; Ms Mandira Ghosh, poet and Mr Pankaj\nBisht, Hindi novelist. The event was organised by the White Lotus Book Shop,\nNepal, also an exhibitor in the Fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s Pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The activities\nat the Children\u2019s Pavilion kickstarted with the workshop &#8216;Can Write, Can Play.&#8217;\nDuring the session, Shri Ajay Verma entertained children and using musical\nsounds, he narrated stories to them. Ms Sangeeta Sethi also narrated stories\nrevolving around sports to children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Scientoon, a scientific cartoon\nworkshop was organized by NISCAIR at the Children&#8217;s Pavilion. Ms Charu Verma, Dr.\nPradeep Srivastava, Shri Javed and Ms Shubhada Kapil interacted with children and\ncoordinated the programme. A large number of students from Delhi World School\nand Cambridge School, Noida participated in the workshop. Later, an\ninteractive session on &#8216;Communicating Science to Children through Science\nCommunication&#8217; was organized by NISCAIR at Children&#8217;s Pavilion. The panelists\ninteracted with children and talked to them about importance of science in\neveryday life, and different ways of learning science easily. The speakers\nincluded well-known science communicators and children\u2019s authors, viz. Biman\nBasu, Madhu Pant, Ranjana Aggarwal, Kapil Tripathi among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Musical\nstorytelling by Jaishree Sethi took children to a world of imagination at the Children\u2019s\nPavilion. She shared how music adds essence to the stories. The children\nenjoyed the demonstration of keyboard, guitar and other musical instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition,\nstorytelling session was organised by Story Ghar in association with Chestha\nCare Foundation at the Children\u2019s pavilion. Ms Jaishree Sethi, well-known\nstoryteller, Ms Sonika Kaushik, Sr. Consultant, NCERT and Shri Shamir, a\ntheatre professional interacted with the children. The discussion focused on how\nto make storytelling an amazing adventure for the primary school children. The\nspeakers believed that human to human connection improves via stories, and they\nalso shared some tips for the primary school teachers for better storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Author\u2019s Corner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A talk with Ms\nSudha Murthy was organized by HarperCollins Publishers. &nbsp;During the\nsession, Ms Sudha Murthy talked about her recently published book for children,\n<em>Gopi Diaries, Coming Home<\/em>. While interacting with the booklovers, she\nsaid that the book has been written about her dog, Gopi, who has been an angel\nfor her and her family. Gopi had changed the perspective of everyone at her\nhome about pets with the power of love. Later, Ms Sudha Murthy also read out\nexcerpts from her book.&nbsp; Moderated by Ms Akriti Tyagi, the other speakers\non the occasion included Shri Udayan Mitra and Ms Tina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPoetry is highest form of art as it\nexpresses thousands of feelings within a few words which makes it superior than\nother genres,\u201d said Shri Mukul Kumar, a poet and an author at Yuva Sahiti, a\npoetry reading session of young poets. Vijay Shankar Barman recited a poem in\nAsamiya language and translated it into Hindi for the audience. Besides,\nKrishan Mohan Singh, Manoj Kumar Pandey, N Suresh Babu among others read their\npoems. The session was organised by Sahitya Akademi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book, <em>Article 370: Explained for the Common Man<\/em>, authored by Sumit Dutt\nMajumdar was released at a function held at the Author&#8217;s Corner. Moderated by\nJayanta Roy Chowdhury, the other guests on the occasion included TCA Raghavan,\nOmair Ahmad, Nishtha Gautam and Sumit Dutt Majumdar. Talking about the book,\nOmair Ahmad said that the book includes historic nuances and the Indian\nConstitution\u2019s approach towards different problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lekhak\nManch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A session on Urdu poetry, \u2018Sarhad Ke\nAar-Paar Ki Shayari\u2019 was organized by Rajpal &amp; Sons at the Lekhak Manch.\nThe Urdu poetry of well-known poets from India and Pakistan including Umair\nNazmi, Idris Babar, Tufail Chaturvedi, Sudarshan Fakir, Nadir Aziz among others\nwere rendered. The speakers on the occasion included Vikas Sharma, Satyam\nTewari, Saurabh Shekhar, Colonel Gautam Raj Rishi and Ankit Gautam. The session\nwas coordinated by Irshad Khan Sikandar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A panel discussion on satire in 21<sup>st<\/sup>\ncentury was organized by Vyang Yatra, a magazine in Hindi at the Lekhak Manch.\nWell-known litterateurs including Prem Janmejaya, Pankaj Subir, Ramesh Saini,\nGirish Pankaj, Harish Pathak, Sameeksha Telang, Ranvijay Rao and Suresh Kant\nwere present on the occasion. The speakers talked about the different aspects\nof satire and how through satire, the writers express their views fearlessly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A discussion for the need to promote Hindi\nlanguage was organized by Matribhasha Unnayan Sansthan at the Lekhak Manch.\nShri Surendra Sharma, Padmashri awardee said that Hindi is a language of ethos.\nOn this occasion, the books <em>Kya Naam\nRakhon <\/em>by Rinkle Sharma and <em>Varangna<\/em>\nby Dr Arpan Jain were also released. Dr Kunwar Baichain, Divik Ramesh Prof.\nRajeev Jain, Shri Vedpratap Vedic and Swami Videh Dev were also present on the\noccasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one of the sessions at the Lekhak Manch, the\nbook <em>Nagrik Patrakarita<\/em> authored by\nDr Pawan Singh Malik was released. The guests present on the occasion included\nHitesh Shankar, Umesh Upadhyay, Rahul Mahajan and Brijkishore Kotiyala. The\nprogrammed was organized by Yash Publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seminar\nHall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A seminar on \u2018Mahatma Gandhi: The Writers\u2019\nWriter\u2019 was organized by Authors Guild of India in collaboration with National\nBook Trust, India at the Seminar Hall. Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman,\nNBT and Prof. Shyam Singh Shashi, Padmashri awardee were the special guests on\nthe occasion. Moderated by Prof. Shiv Shankar Awasthi, General Secretary,\nAuthors Guild of India, the other speakers on the occasion included Dr Vijay Shankar\nTewari, Principal, Satyawati College, and Prof. Kailash Nath, University of\nDelhi. The speakers discussed about the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s Satyagraha\nand his principles of truth and non-violence which he followed to bring peace\nand harmony among people of different religions, castes and cultures.
