The festival will conclude with an\naward ceremony at the same venue on 3<sup>rd<\/sup> February at 5.00 p.m.\nScreening and other special events of the festival, the oldest international\nevent for non-feature films in South Asia; will be held at Films Division\ncomplex at 24, Dr. G. Deshmukh Marg, Mumbai from 29<sup>th<\/sup> January to 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\nFebruary, 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16<sup>th<\/sup> edition of MIFF will\nbe special in many respects. Apart from screening of wide variety of films in competition\nsections, departed legends of documentary and animation genre will be\nremembered with special screenings in homage apart from exhibitions on a few of\nthem. &nbsp;Animation lovers will be delighted\nto savour retrospective packages from three countries and European documentary culture\nwill be revealed through a specially curated package. The delegates of 16<sup>th<\/sup>\nMIFF will experience qualitative as well as diverse content in the current\nedition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>MIFF attracts film makers from all\nover the world. The number of\nentries received this year is testimony to the credibility of the festival. The\n16<sup>th<\/sup> edition has received a record 729 entries in National and 144 in\nInternational competition from 24 countries, which underlines the remarkable response\nreceived by the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MIFF 2020 will\nhave a number of attractions such as a special package of films from European Union,\nAnimation package from Russia, Finland and Balkan, Oscar nominated films such\nas <em>Fauve,<\/em> <em>Detainment and<\/em> <em>Night\nat the garden. <\/em>Ireland will showcase its best documentaries in the Country\nFocus section. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, curated films\nfrom North-East India, best of various International Film Festivals and eminent\nfilm maker Satyajit Ray\u2019s films such as <em>Sukumar Ray<\/em>, <em>Rabindranath\nTagore<\/em>, <em>The inner Eye,<\/em> and iconic film <em>Pikoo will be screened.<\/em>&nbsp; Student films from FTII \/ SRFTI \/ NID \/ FTIT\/\nSrishti \/ Craft School\/ Whistlingwood add to the list of films eagerly awaited\nby delegates of MIFF.&nbsp; Other highlights include\nOpen Forum by IDPA, \u2018Film Editing\u2019 workshop by B. Lenin, \u2018Drone Cinematography\u2019\nWorkshop by Indian Institute of Drones, Master classes by acclaimed animator\nMichael Dudok De Wit (Poland), senior film academician Thomas Waugh (Canada)\nand many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added attractions in\nMIFF 2020 are Sculpture and Photo Exhibition-cum-demonstration to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commemorate 150<sup>th\n<\/sup>Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and celebration of Centenary of\nSatyajit Ray. &nbsp;MIFF will pay homage to\nMrinal Sen, Ram Mohan, Bhimsain Khurana, VG Samant, Vijaya Mule, Manjira Datta etc\nby screening their select works and also through specially curated exhibition.&nbsp; This edition will also see a participation of\nintellectually challenged young adults with their short films, in special\nscreenings. Further, films\nrecommended by the Selection Committee will be screened under MIFF Prism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A mobile app for MIFF has been launched by <\/strong><strong>Ms. Smita Vats Sharma\n, Festival Director, MIFF and DG, Films Division\nin a curtain- raiser press conference held in Mumbai Press Club today. \u201cMIFF\n2020 is going mobile. <\/strong><strong>All information on the festival can be accessed via the mobile\napp.<\/strong><strong>\nThe MIFF app will facilitate the delegates of MIFF to network and vote for\nfilms too\u201d, stated the Film Director. Link of\nMIFF app is: <\/strong>onelink.to\/miffindia<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Festival\nDirector- MIFF further also informed, \u201cMIFF 2020 will facilitate conversations,\nQ&amp; A sessions and B2B meets between filmmakers and OTT players, to help\nfilmmakers better market their films\u201d. Mumbai International Film Festival is a platform not only\nfor Indian film makers but also for film-makers from across the world, she added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ms. Smita Vats Sharma<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>also informed that a <\/strong><strong>special award\nfor the best short film on \u2018Water Conservation and Climate Change\u2019 carrying One\nlakh cash and trophy has been instituted in the current edition of the\nfestival.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Vats Sharma further said \u201cMIFF not only recognizes best\ntalents in documentary, short fiction and animation films by bestowing Golden\nand &nbsp;Silver Conches and trophies, but it also gives away handsome cash\nawards in different competition categories. The most prestigious award in the\n16th MIFF, the <strong>Best Film of the Festival<\/strong> carries a cash prize of 10 Lakh\nand Golden Conch while other awards carry cash awards varying from five to one\nLakh along with Silver Conch, trophy and certificate. &nbsp;IDPA award carrying\nRs One lakh and trophy for the Best student film and Dadasaheb Phalke\nChitranagari Award for the Best Debut Director will also be presented on the\nclosing day<strong>.&nbsp; <\/strong>The coveted <strong>Dr. V\nShantaram Lifetime Achievement Award<\/strong> that carries a cash award of Rs 10\nlakh, trophy and a citation is presented to a filmmaker for seminal\ncontribution to&nbsp; documentary films and\nits movement in India in every edition of the festival. Awards in various\ncompetition categories will be presented on 3rd February at the closing\nceremony\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of\nMIFF 2020, screenings of specially curated films will be held at Kalina campus\nof University of Mumbai, Deviprasad Goenka Management College at Malad and Usha\nPravin Gandhi College Campus at Vile Parle to encourage and engage students at\nlarge to get involved&nbsp; in documentary\nfilm making and aesthetics.
