Inaugurating Divya Jyoti, an inter nursing school festival, held in the Perfect Health Mela being organized by Heart Care Foundation of India at Constitution Club of India from 23rd to 27th October, 2013, Dr. S S Agarwal Former Director DIPSAR and Mr Pawan Sinha, Astro Uncle, said that every practicing doctor must hire the services of a nurse practitioner in his clinic who can not only provide nursing care but also counsel the patients for prevention of lifestyle disorders.<\/p>\n

It should also be the responsibility of the nurse to provide full vaccination care including adolescents, adults and elderly. Nurse should also be attached through the clinic to patients at their homes to enquire about their health, about their appointment and vaccination schedules.<\/p>\n

\nPadma Shri & Dr. BC Roy National Awardee, Dr. KK Aggarwal, President Heart Care Foundation of India said that 90% of patient-doctor mishaps are linked to lack of communication between the patient and the doctor and this link can be filled by the nurse practitioner.<\/p>\n

In the West, another important role is played by the pharmacists whose job is to explain everything about prescription drugs. Unfortunately, in India pharmacists do not visit the patients even in the hospitals. Till that concept arrives in India, nurses partially can play that role to explain how to take drugs.<\/p>\n

Over 2000 nurses participated in the event, which included debates, play, slogan writing and model competition.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nMedical treatment will become costly<\/b>
\nThe recent Supreme Court decision to award a compensation of 5.6 crore (one million dollars) in a medical negligence case is premature for the India society. It will only lead to corporate sector increasing treatment costs exorbitantly and the same may become beyond the reach of a common man.<\/p>\n

Following are the possible implications, said Dr. Aggarwal<\/b>
\n*The treatment is already costly at corporate hospitals and it will become further costly.
\n*Nothing has been done by the Supreme Court to eradicate quackery so far, which is responsible for spoiling most cases at the initial stages.
\n*More and more complaints will be lodged in consumer forums and medical councils with a hope of getting a huge compensation.
\n*Every death will be viewed with a suspicion of medical negligence.
\n*The insurance companies in all likelihood will increase their premium.
\n*No family physician will afford to charge consultations in hundreds.
\n*The judgment will also affect Homoeopaths and Ayurveda Physicians.
\n*Today CGHS pays Rs. 61 for consultation. Most doctors will refuse to take such cases. Similarly, they may refuse to see patients of corporate sectors, which pay less fees.
\n*Protect them in other future cases.<\/p>\n

Prohibition Department creates awareness about hazards of drinking<\/b>
\nCommenting on the subject, Dr. Aggarwal said that smoking when added to alcohol is more harmful. Alcohol is harmful if it is consumed by patients with fatty liver, potbelly obesity, uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled blood pressure, damage to the heart muscles with low pumping action and high triglycerides levels.<\/p>\n

Even though the western literature says that moderate use of alcohol reduces chances of future heart attack, the same has not been proven by Indian studies.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n*SGOT can be more than SGPT and NASH, Hepatitis B, dengue fever, acute muscle injury, H1N2 and Wilson disease
\n*A 2-fold rise of Gamma GT with SGOT and SGPT ratio of more than 2, unless proved otherwise, is alcoholic liver disease.<\/p>\n

Winter months – Time to get the flu shot <\/b>A study published in Journal of American Medical Association has shown that getting the flu vaccination lowers a person\u2019s chances of getting heart attack, paralysis, heart failure or sudden cardiac death by 33% for the next 1 year.<\/div>\n
