INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATED BY ANHLGT

ANHLGT had organized International Women’s Day on 8th March 2016 at Brahma Kumaris Ashram Hall. Smt Vimla Mehra, IPS, retired Sr. Special Commissioner Delhi, stated that there are many opportunities for the women now ,to do independent work. Every woman should try to do a little bit of social service and she informed that she was very happy to do work with the prisoners of Tihar Jail.

Sister Saroj, Head of the Brahma Kumaris Ashram, advised the ladies to keep house in peace and harmony; for which meditation and spiritual development is necessary.

Mr. Mukesh Sinha, Managing Editor of Dwarka City spoke about the history of International Women’s Day. It started from New York (America) in 1910. The women there, were suffering from inequality and atrocity. Next year neighbourhood countries such as Switzerland, Germany etc joined the rally in Chicago on 8th March 1911. That day is called as International Women’s day. In 1975 United nation recognized International Women’s Day on 8th March and had wished all the ladies Happy International Women’s Day.

Mrs. Cicily Kodiyan, President of ANHLGT said ladies have got equal rights in many countries, for example voting right, education right etc. But in many other countries situation is very bad.

In progressive countries International Women’s Day is celebrated as a big festival and in Russia, China and Afghanistan International Women’s Day is a national holiday. Men greet women with flowers and gifts.

Mrs Neeru Gupta ,joint secretary of ANHLGT ,narrated numerous achievements of the organisation since inception.

A cultural programme was also organised. Mrs. Romila Gandhi had written and directed a play on empowerment of women. Other programmes on themes such as ; Unity in diversity , Saree is a National dress, Ladies representing sarees of 12 States performed dance on the song ‐ “Bharat Hum Ko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai”. At the end of the programme the Brahma Kumaries distributed Prasad to the audience.
