Jansanskriti – Dwarka expresses its deep sorrow at the tragic death of the brave young woman who had been a victim of the brutal beating and gang rape on a moving bus in the heart of the National capital. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.
This is not an isolated incident. Sexual assault cases are the fastest increasing crimes in India. In Delhi there is zero accountability on the part of various authorities for the deteriorating security of women in the capital with the state and central agencies indulging in a blame game. Naturally there has been a spontaneous upsurge fuelled by the outrage against crime towards women.
Today ie., on 30th Dec, there was a protest march in Dwarka, Delhi towards the crematorium where this girl’s pyre was lit. The protest was with basic demands of measures to ensure security, easy access to time bound justice, referring all pending cases to fast track courts, stringent laws against sexual assault and creating social awareness against commodification of women.
However, the insensitive Delhi Police personal did not allow us to enter the crematorium and there was a heated argument taken place between us and the Police Officials. The emotional participants consisting largely women and young girls paid tribute to the brave girl with lighted candles and white flowers at entrance gate of the crematorium.
