Frank Delaney Scotland Amateur Boxing Team Coach, Ross Hendersen,Heavy weight boxing champion 91 kg and Aston Brown, Welterweight 69 kg visited Sri VIS to meet students and staff on 13th October 2010. Mrs Nita Arora, School Principal accorded the traditional floral welcome and introduced the visitors. The students had a NTSE coaching class and staff had a ‘Personal Effectiveness Workshop’ by Pooja Sehgal during the October holidays and the tete-a-tete with CWG delegates, made their day all the more exciting and meaningful.
Coach Frank Delaney shared a few tips on exercise regime and boxing techniques. Ross gave them invaluable tips on right life style. He said to remain fit; one should abstain from smoking and alcohol and consume lots of fruits and vegetables. Among cereals, whole grains preparations of wheat and oat porridge are the healthier options. Sugar and fats should be avoided. Food rich in proteins is necessary too.
Frank, Aston and Ross loved their experience in India and were very elated to be back in school. They were gifted souvenirs by the school and they obliged the students and staff with autographs.
The CWG song composed for the games by Sri VIS was played for them and on their request ‘JAI HO’ song was also played. The strains of ‘We are the best’ and ‘Jai Ho’ resonated in the auditorium. Prithvi Chauhan of Class VIII played a sweet melody on flute to entertain the guests.
All those who could not watch the Commonwealth Games and even those who could watch live matches were thrilled to interact personally with the Scottish boxing team.
