There is no clear answer to the question whether Delhi will get water from the Munak Canal. Haryana has said that Delhi will get its rightful share but only for the Commonwealth Games. Delhi is expecting 60 MGD water out of which Dwarka is will get 40 MGD water from this canal after its completion in a few months.
Delhi has reportedly paid Rs 350 crore for the construction of canal that would save a huge amount of water for the two states by cutting down on transit loss. But Haryana government said “Not a drop out of any saving will be given to Delhi and the state (Delhi) should not waste its resources by constructing any treatment plant on this presumption,”
A Delhi Government official said that “we have spent money on the construction and it is quite clear that we should also get benefit from the savings. There is a MoU to this effect and Haryana cannot deprive us to our rightful share”.
