Sample Block of EWS Flats at Dwarka Sector- 23 Inaugurated

Hon’ble Shri Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Urban Development, Government of India inaugurated the sample block of EWS flats constructed by DDA at Dwarka Sector-23 today at about 11.30 AM, in presence of Kumari Selja, Hon’ble Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Minister of Culture, (special invitee) and Sh.Mahabal Mishra, MP and Sh.Sumesh Shokeen, MLA. Shri G.S.Patnaik, Vice Chairman, Shri Ashok Khurana, Engineer Member and other senior officers of DDA were present besides a large gathering of residents of the surrounding areas. 


Shri Kamal Nath, speaking on the occasion, expressed happiness regarding EWS flats and said that urbanization is a challenge especially when about 5 lakh people migrate to Delhi every year from adjoining states. The challenge of urbanization, according to him, should be viewed with a new vision and changed perspective. To meet this challenge, he said, it is necessary to provide the basic facilities to all sections including economically weaker sections and housing is one such requisite facility. Regarding prefab technology he said that this is a new construction technology introduced by DDA for the first time in Delhi and that it is an efficient technology resulting in speedy and environment friendly construction. He hoped that DDA would be able to meet its target of building 1 lakh flats for economically weaker sections. Delhi according to him has changed considerably since the inception of DDA and thus DDA should also work with renewed vision with the objective to serve Delhities in a better fashion. Regarding Master Plan he said that such plans should be made keeping in view the ground realities, needs of the future and also participation of the people. The Master Plan of Delhi 2021 is being reviewed to improve the shortcomings and keeping in view the future growth.

Kumari Selja speaking on the occasion emphasized the need for peoples participation and inclusion of ground realities in planning process. Provision be made for housing facility for economically weaker sections of the society and also to enable the poor to live in good environment with dignity and gracefulness. She informed that her Ministry has sanctioned about 74000 flats for EWS under JNNURM and that the Rajiv Awas Yojna is also aimed to make India slum free. She also emphasized the importance of in-situ rehabilitation. According to her there are 325 slum clusters on DDA land and that these slums have come up because the needs of poor and downtrodden were not recognized. She said, though Delhi’s population is about 1 percent of total population of India and Delhi contributes about 3 percent towards GDP of the country and we alsotalk about inclusive growth but the same is not reflected in our planning process. She expressed her happiness and appreciated the design and plan of EWS flats inaugurated.

Shri Mahabal Mishra, MP thanked DDA for various development works undertaken in West Delhi, providing Metro connectivity to Dwarka etc. He demanded construction of bypass road connecting Chhawla to Rohtak Road via Najafgarh drain, Kakrola and Keshopur Depot and also for construction of peripheral roads in Dwarka. Sh.Sumesh Shokeen, MLA expressed happiness and thanked DDA for construction of a complete housing block inclusive of all required facilities at one place for economically weaker section of the society. 

 
Shri G.S.Patnaik, Vice Chairman, DDA in his welcome address said that DDA is committed for providing houses to various sections of the society to ensure conducive living environment for its occupants. In order to achieve its aim DDA has taken up construction of EWS and LIG flats in a big way. The work of EWS houses at Rohini, Dwarka and Narela by using prefab technology has already started at site. He informed that under EWS housing 11060 houses in Rohini, 6580 houses in Narela and 2400 houses in Dwarka have been taken up with prefab technology. In these pockets the total number of dwellings units will be 19657 and there will be 21 Anganwadis, 168 shops and 187 community facilities for the convenience of the residents of the block. Provision for sufficient parking space, central park, play ground, fire fighting system will also be made. The construction method and materials are confirming to the requirements of green building, use of timber is completely eliminated and that of scarce commodities reduced substantially. Fly ash is used to the maximum possible extent. Use of factory produce prefab components ensured dimensional accuracy, energy saving and lesser pollution. All approvals have been obtained, structural proof checking has been got done by IIT, Roorkee. Material testing laboratories have also been set up at all casting yards. For third party quality assurance M/s RITES have been appointed.
