M K GUPTA

The estimated population of Dwarka has reached to about 6-lakh and it has residential, office/court and commercial buildings up to 10 floors. Despite this, Dwarka fire station does not have any hydraulic-ladder which is capable to fight fire up to 15th floors. From the help of fire equipments available at Sector 6 fire station, fire can be effectively tackle up to 5th floor or at about the height of 50 foot. For two fire tenders at this fire station, only one driver is available and in case of emergency, some fire operator also works as driver. In case of emergency, Hydraulic-Ladder can be called from Bhikaji Cama Place/ Connaught Place or Prasad Nagar but it will not take less than half an hour to reach at any site in Dwarka. No such ladder is either available at Janakpuri fire station though it has multistoried Distt. Centre.

It is understood that the Dwarka fire station has sent demand for hydraulic-ladder and other fire fighting equipments to Delhi Govt. It is learnt that two more plots at section 3 and 22 for fire station have already been allotted. Unconfirmed report says that Delhi govt. has given its approval for one more fire station in Dwarka. Let us hope it will have all modern equipments such as hydraulic tender etc and will come up soon.
