INDIA’s FIRST TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE ’INTERCEPTOR-V8 EQUIPPED WITH STATE OF THE ART CRASH LAB TO INVESTIGATE ACCIDENTS AND IMPROVE POST CRASH MANAGEMENT UNVEILED

An Advanced new Traffic enforcement technology vehicle ‘Interceptor V8 ‘ fitted with state of the art crash lab system to help investigate accident’s and improve post crash management through road audits was unveiled here today.

The ‘Interceptor V8’ , the first of it’s kind Crash lab in the country is equipped with latest tools and gadgets for collecting evidences and measurements from the accident scene has been developed and designed by Institute of Road Traffic Institute (IRTE) for practical use by police and traffic enforcement agencies in the country.

The Interceptor V8 vehicle was launched by Jointly by Mr Abhay Damle, joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport an Highways, government of India and Mr Andrey Vasilyev, Deputy Executive Secretary UNECE during a Three day conference on Safety of Vulnerable Road Users in South East Asia Region, organised by Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) .

“An initiative of IRTE The crash lab a mobile Accident Investigation & Road Safety Reconnaissance Laboratory, with a vision to revolutionise scientific accident crash and collision investigation in the country and to support the police and other investigating authorities in determining factual causes and consequences of such collisions.” Said Dr Rohit Baluja , President, Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE).

“Crashlab features high resolution digital video and still camera which can be elevated to a height of over 12ft. to take live critical shots of the collision form a strategically high view angle. High intensity spot lamps in synchronisation with the camera enables quality images/video recordings even during dusk/night operation. CrashLab also features Laser based device for speed measurement and digital motion video and still recording.It has breath test and first aid facility also” Said Dr Baluja .

“CrashLab is also designed to use the latest Global Positioning System (GPS), for ascertaining the true location of the collision scene and creating digital maps of road stretches. CrashLab is equipped with the latest tools and gadgets for collecting evidences and measurements from the accident scene” Dr Baluja added..

It can also detect lane changing, speeding parking violation s etc

“Interceptor vehicle concept initiated in 1995, IRTE developed the state of the art traffic enforcement technology vehicle called “Interceptor”. This technology was recognized by the Government of India at the National Republic Day Parade in 1996 and again in 2001. Designed for practical use by police in capturing video based moving violations including speeds of vehicles, the Interceptor is a comprehensive enforcement and education system. The system comprises of suitably customised vehicle platform, enforcement equipment and software, hardware, complimented with data analysis centre.” Said Dr Baluja.

“ The Interceptor has helped police authorities in about 17 states in the country in prosecuting traffic violators on basis of Evidence, spreading Traffic Education, providing Primary First Aid and Rescue , in conducting Road and Infrastructure Surveys. worked as a Deterrent for traffic violators and helped in Road Safety Audits” said Dr Baluja
