The festival of LOHRI is being celebrated with traditional fervour and enthusiasm in many parts of the country on 13th January every year. The festival is a celebration of happiness, warmth and brotherhood, besides being associated with the joy of ripened crops and the sun’s northward journey. It is a celebration of gratitude, abundance and renewal.
The residents of A-Block Sector-8, (DDA’s Residential Plotted Area), Dwarka, New Delhi celebrated the LOHRI festival with great fun, fervour and enthusiasm. The families came together at a common place near A-281, Sector-8, offered prayers together around the bonfire and shared their joyful moments. The majority of residents, sang punjabi folk songs and danced together for around an hour and enjoyed it with great excitement. According to A S Chhatwal , a resident of Sector -8 “men, women and children participated in Punjabi Bhangra and Gidda dance on the bollywood music. The neighbours wished each other a very happy Lohri and distributed rewari, peanuts, popcorn and patti and sweets etc to everyone”. This festival also conveys a message of mutual love and unity, said Col (Dr) Sanjay Kaushal, resident of the area.
“The children should know the history and values behind it. In doing so, Lohri becomes more than a festive evening. It becomes a way of passing on tradition and values to the next generation” said R C Tiwari, another resident of Sector 8, Dwarka.
