Dwarka New Delhi; Mahavir Jayanti is the most important festival in Jainism, celebrating birth of Mahavira, the founder of Jainism and the 24th Tithankar (religious guru) of the faith. Lord Mahavir was born in the 7th century BC, and his birth anniversary is celebrated with much fervor at Jain temples across the country. On this auspicious day, the custom of donating money, food and clothing to the poor is also an important aspect of celebrating Mahavir Jayanti.
Mahavir Jayanti 2012 Celebration. During Mahavir Jayanti celebration, devotees and practitioners will go to Jain temple to pay respect, by bathing Mahavira statues, then proceed to offer prayers and meditate. Monks will lead special services and teach the virtuous path. Donations and other charitable acts are encouraged on this day.
Mr.R.K.Jain-Founder & Executive Member of JAIN SAMAJ DWARKA(regd) informed DWARKA PARICHAY that their organization organized a Prabhat pheri-cum-Shobha Yatra taken out on Thursday, the 5th of April 2012, on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. The procession with tableaus started at 6.30am from the plot located at HAF pocket E. sector 12, (oppo Dwarka International School) Dwarka, earmarked by DDA for construction of Panchayati Jain Temple by Jain Samaj Dwarka. The procession passed through Rajsthan Apartment, sector4, Lovely Chowk, Himachal Apartments, Eaden Tower of sector 5, Kaveri Apartments and the sector 6 market. A huge number of devotees joined the procession with full religious sentiments. The ladies were singing the holy songs & slogans ( ahensa parmo dharma ) & even the participation of small children with best attire were the major attraction of the celebration. It concluded at Jain Timber Market Sector 10.
