We are aware of the ill effects of the use of plastic bags to our environment. Some of the ill-effects are as under.
· Plastic alone kills more than 100,000 birds, cows and marine life.
· It takes almost 1000 years for plastic to decay and mix with soil.
· Recycle of biodegradable waste is hindered.
· Cost to economy
Under the banner of Art of Living, we have taken an initiative to spread awareness and remove plastic bags from Dwarka. In this regard, the teachers and volunteers have been working for this cause near the weekly vegetable markets from past two months. The response shown by the public and the vendors have been quite encouraging. We need your support in creating more awareness among the residents to address this major problem.
Our aim is to remove plastics used in vegetable market where almost 11 lakhs/month worth of plastic and over 1 crore of plastic per annum is used. These are the plastics which can be avoided at any given point of time by educating people to carry bags from home when they plan to come to the market to buy vegetables and fruits.
We need your support in making Dwarka a Plastic free zone and set an example to the whole of Delhi
On 5th June 2011(Sunday), on the occasion of World Environment Day, we have planned a SAY NO TO PLASTIC candle-lit march starting at 6.00PM from Sector 6 Market.
Please join and support this cause as this is the time to show that we all want GREEN PLANET and not PLASTIC PLANET .
