Teachers’ Day – a day that is celebrated in appreciation of the hard work put in by teachers all year long – is a dedication to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a strong believer of quality education and was one of the most well known Diplomats, a Scholar, President of India and above all a Teacher. As a tribute, his birthday is observed as Teachers’ Day – a manifestation of his love for and attachment to the teaching profession.
You students do trouble your teachers, but they realize that you are still growing and are bound to make mistakes; so they go out of their way to direct you on to the right path.
On Teachers’ Day, you dress up to represent teachers and take lectures assigned to the teachers you symbolize. You perform the usual activities that are performed by teachers. You realize what it means to be a teacher and control the future of several students.
In ancient Indian scriptures too, the Guru is venerated and loved and the Guru’s position is second only to parents. GURU POURNIMA is also dedicated to teachers.
This shloka from the scriptures, describes the Teacher – Student relationship:
Om, Sahana Bhavatu, Sahanou Bhunaktu, Saha Veeryam Karava Vahaiy,
Tejaswinam Vadheetamastu Ma Vidhvishavahai; Om, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti
May the Lord indeed protect both of us; May He indeed nourish both of us; May we together acquire the capacity to study and understand; May our study be successful; May we always agree with each other; Peace, peace, peace.
