Sri VIS, Sector-18, Dwarka holds Design Thinking Workshop for students

Sri Venkateshwar International School, Sector 18, Dwarka organised a session on ‘Design Thinking’ by Prof. Mike Knowles of the Sushant School of Design, Ansal University. The session was attended by the students of classes IX to XII on 24 August 2018 in the school auditorium. The school is already running a series of workshops for staff on Design Thinking under the Professional Enrichment Hub Centre for the teachers.

Prof. Knowles highlighted the aspects of Creative Thinking, whose major components are relevance, rationale and empathy. He also spoke on designing of ‘smart cities ‘ and the top ten agendas outlined by our Prime Minister Mr. Modi for India on the path of progress.

He pointed out that creativity and original thinking according to a research, reduces to 30% by the age of twelve and up to 12% by the time an individual reaches eighteen years of age.

As a concluding note, Prof. Knowles urged the students to find ‘the magic’ within and explore their own originality. He stated that ‘designing’ is the field gaining more relevance currently and students must explore a career in the same.

The session was convened by Ms Deepti Sawhney of Mahattattava and the Principal Mrs. Nita Arora who hold the belief that exposing young students to pioneering ideas in diverse fields is as crucial a component of schooling as academics. Mrs. Harvinder Saraswat, the school counsellor, coordinated the event for the students. The probing questions posed by the students were adeptly answered by Prof. Knowles.
