“Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha” organized Environment Week in Dwarka begining from 5th June 2016, the World Environment Day, with an aim of spreading awareness amongst the public about the problems of deteriorating environmental conditions and steps required for improvement thereof. The daily programmes during the week included cleaning of parks and roads of the area, tree plantation, watering the trees, pruning of trees obstructing traffic lights and pathways, no honking campaign, desilting of natural water bodies, educating children about species of the trees and bushes and so on so forth. The Environment Week concluded on 12th June 2016 with lectures of eminent environmentalists and social workers. Shri Imran Hussain, Honorable Minister of Food & Supplies, Environment & Forests and Election of the Government of Delhi NCT was the Chief Guest in this programme. Taking keen interest in the activities of the Sanstha, the Chief Guest applauded its efforts and assured of all his help in the social work of the Sanstha. Councillor of the area Shri Ramesh Matiyala was also present in the function.
Awareness tour of children to the parks was applauded by parents with a request to hold it again for the kids who could not join. Col. P.C. Chowdhary, President Chitrakoot Apartments, Sector-22, Dwarka (New Delhi) and Secretary “Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha”, took the initiative and brought the group of the enthusiastic children to a nearby DDA park at about 8:00 a.m. on 14th June 2016 and briefed them about the role and importance of the trees, followed by a visit to various trees in the park. Capt S.S. Mann, a nature lover and Vice President of “Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha”, took the children to the tress one by one, and shared his knowledge about various trees. The children were very receptive and noted down the information given to them about various types of trees and their utility. Following trees were introduced to the children during this visit – Pipal, Banyan, Ficus, Benzemina, Kaner, Jamun, Beri, Aanwla, Neem, Shsham, Pipli, Bottle Brush, Arjunand Bovenvilla. It is noteworthy that all of these trees were planted by “Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha” with the help of Horticulture Department of Delhi Development Authority.Other members of SDKS also accompanied the children in the event.
The children were briefed about “Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha” too and were promised on behalf of the Sanstha to organize Painting Competition, Quiz Contest and various games on Children Day which will be celebrated with full gaiety and gusto on 14th November 2016 on the occasion of Chacha Nehru birthday. The children were prompted to participate in these programmes in large number together with their parents and friends. It was also promised to the children to arrange their visit to the water bodies of Sector 20 and 23 of Dwarka in the coming rainy season when the TD-2, the main source of natural water supply to these water bodies connected with the Nazafgarh drain, will be flowing like a big river.
“Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha” have decided to make all efforts to continue organizing such programmes for educating the children, future of the society. Next such programme will be organized in Park No. 4 of the DDA in Dwarka Sector-23 on Saturday, the 18th June 2016.
