Dr. Alpana told that according to World Health Organisation (WHO) 2012 report, in India, 1 out of 2 women with breast cancer dies. In India, the major factors of concern and for a reduced survival rate are:
1. Delayed reporting/presentation of breast cancer for medical help.
2. Lack of awareness and practice of Breast Self-Examination (BSE) to detect breast cancer.
3. Increasing incidence of breast cancer in the age group 25 to 40 years.
4. Lack of deployment of affordable technologies for regular screening for breast cancer.
