The All India Newspaper Editors Conference (AINEC) the apex body of newspaper editors in the country expresses deep concern about the raids conducted at the premises of senior journalists on October 3, 2023.
While the law must take its course, we urge the government and its agencies to respect the freedom of Press and ensure that the investigation is fair and transparent. It is important that the investigating agencies pursue actual offences, if any, and not use their powers to muzzle the voice of journalists or to intimidate them.
A free press is a key pillar of democracy and it is the duty of the government to uphold the independence of media.
