LETTER TO SHRI AJAY MAKEN, SPORTS MINISTER BY DWARKA FORUM

Shri Ajay Maken,
Hon’ble Minister of Sports

Respected Sir,

At the outset, we are thankful to you and your ministry for taking up the issue for accelerating the spirit of youth and sports. It is discouraging that Cabinet did not accept your move but we are still hopeful that with your committed efforts, concern & professionalism, it will pave the way for a smooth and transparent enactment of the proposed bill. To be honest your approach and move have established the fact that the country still have some ministers & elected representatives who have intention to make the things & system better and transparent especially when there is a perception that Ministers are more interested in lobbying for the corporate houses.

Number of times information has been denied on the ground that BCCI is not a public Authority. With the introduction of IPL, many controversies have come up in public domain and BCCI has also taking number of benefits from Government along with a lot of money by way of sponsorships from business houses and corporates. Therefore, it must be accountable towards public. We strongly support your move and this must be put up again to the Cabinet by your sincere efforts. We also demand that while re-considering this bill ministers should abstain from the meeting who is having conflict of interest. It is obvious that BBCI will defend it but in no way Government should give the impression that it is under pressure on the subject. After all Government has every right to set the things right for public benefit irrespective of any individual interest of some powerful people.

We would request if the Ministry of Sports and youth affairs immediately create a Page on Ministry Website seeking support from Public for the new bill. We are sure all the people who rallied behind ANNA HAZARE like movement will be backing you in this right step.

With high regards

Sushil Kumar. General Secretary
