“Books are alive more than ever, it’s time we learn to maintain balance between E-books and hard cover”
The National Book Trust, India (under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India) today inaugurated its first-ever three-month long Online Book Publishing Course.
The inaugural session started with the Keynote address by Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman NBT. He informed participants about the relevance of the publishing industry even in rapidly changing dynamics. He said, “Our society and the medium of learning have changed, and publishing industry is not untouched with these evolving changes. There’s no place for average in the current market, one needs to be exceptionally skilled”. He also added, “This is the first time we are conducting this course through online mode, and you will have respective field experts as your faculty.”
Informing the participants of the course, Shri Yuvraj Malik, Director NBT said that in order to create a pool of trained professionals for the publishing industry, National Book Trust, India since many years has been organising its annual month-long Training Course in Book Publishing in Delhi, and short-term training courses in publishing in other parts of the country.
However, with the changing times and the demand of the hour, NBT has started this first-time ever Online Publishing Course for publishing aspirants. Talking about the role of NBT to inculcate book-mindedness in youth, Shri Yuvraj Malik also underlined the role NBT has played
in publishing and telling the authentic, meaningful story of India since independence, and the various activities by NBT to promote books and reading in the country.
Kumar Vikram, Senior Editor at NBT, while speaking on the occasion, focused on the role of an Editor in the whole process of publishing, and is responsible in bringing out the latent energy in any manuscript. It is the responsibility of an Editor to always be open to new ideas and bring originality and freshness in publishing houses.
Distinguished faculty and leading names in the field of publishing will interact with participants on various aspects of the publishing industry during the course. This course from 26th June to 20th September 2020, will be held during weekends for two hours each.
