“Under the IRF-JPN-AIIMS banner, the first certification programme was undertaken for the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) on the NH 37 North-East National Highway stretch of Dibrugarh-Jorhat in Assam during 30th May to 11 June, 2017 this year. The Dibrugarh-Jorhat section in this highway stretch was identified for imparting eFD training and the target audience comprised of road side amenities, bystanders, drivers and volunteers. About 200 persons including bystanders, road side amenity providers like punture shop owner, tea stall , dhabha and petrol pump staff, were trained and certified after stringent post training evaluation done through Case Assignment, Assessment/observation/role play and Viva Voice.” Said MR K K Kapila, Chairman, International Road Federation (IRF) , a Geneva based global body working for better and safer roads world wide.
“This was the first programme under the Enhanced First Aid (eFD) initiative of IRF-JPNAIIMS. The training imparted Enhanced First Aid and life saving techniques, as a part of pre-hospital care, to bystanders and volunteers from road side amenities to act as First Responders and Trauma Care Providers for road accident victims during the golden hour” said Mr Kapila.
“After success of first certification programme the IRF-JPNAIIMS will be organising series of eFD trainings in the state of Tamil Nadu covering stretches recording large number of road accidents. The training will be organised in association with the Ministry of Health in the near future. The eFD trainings will also be undertaken in the States of Bihar and West Bengal under the aegies of FICCI’s Working Group on Road Safety and Emergency Care.” Said Mr Kapila
The eFD training includes applying basic measures to clear victim’s airway and control bleeding, clearing any obstructions and draining any fluid from victims mouth, calling emergency services, performing first aid for the victim, safe handling and shifting techniques to avoid further injury to the victim till the emergency medical services reach the accident site. Skills to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through chest compression’s, maintaining breathing, relieving choking at the accident site and dealing with different kind of bleeding..
