The complete life, the perfect pattern, includes old age as well as youth and maturity. Old age has its pleasures, which, though different, are not less than the pleasures of youth.” This is something that children of NK.BAGRODIA PUBLIC SCHOOL realized when they visited an old age home. Our school organized a visit to a senior citizens’ home at GODHULI , on 23rd December with a group of 30 students.
The inmates were very hospitable and friendly, and they welcomed us with their beautiful smiles. To break the monotony of their lives, the children presented a few songs and a dance for them. They sang carols, played guitar, narrated a short story from bible, entertained them with jokes etc. The students also made them sing and dance along with them and distributed Christmas cards, chocolates and candles. One child also dressed herself as Santa Clause and distributed the items. Some of them broke into tears when they were presented with Christmas gifts . They were very happy to have the children there and they also mentioned this in their vote of thanks. They also said that they would look forward to our visit again .One could make out that they had been longing to share their grief with someone. Two categories of people were found there: the ones who were abandoned and deserted by their children and others who had left their families — fed up with the humiliation and ill-treatment. Whatever the case may be, the sufferers are the aged ones. Old age is also called the second childhood, and is a time when one needs love and care of the near and dear. Though only a few hours were spend with them, but they made the children realize the value of grandparents and the tenderness with which one need to take care of them .They are the ones one ought to respect and love more than anyone else have moulded. Opportunity words and loved ones — once gone, they never come back. They expect us to visit again and spend more quality time with them.
