A dignified programme on the theme “Long Live Democracy” was organized at the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), Sector-7, Dwarka, New Delhi, on Thursday to mark the conclusion of the commemorative events held on the occasion of Constitution Murder Day–2026 and the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Emergency.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Indian Constitution, democratic institutions, and civil liberties. He stated that learning from history and remaining committed to the constitutional values are the collective responsibility of every citizen to ensure the strength and continuity of democracy.
On the occasion, Shri Ram Bahadur Rai, Chairman of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), delivered the keynote address highlighting the historical context of the Emergency, the democratic struggles that followed, and the significance of freedom of expression. He observed that active public participation and unwavering faith in constitutional principles are essential for building a vibrant and resilient democracy.
Welcoming the dignitaries, CCRT Director Shri Pappunjay Kumar reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to preserving and promoting democratic values as well as India’s rich cultural heritage.
A captivating cultural programme presented by artists under the direction of Dr. Chetan Joshi enthralled the audience. An exhibition showcasing artworks by participating artists also emerged as a major attraction and received widespread appreciation from the visitors.
Distinguished participants and achievers from different states of India were honoured for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields. The programme was effectively compered by senior radio broadcaster Jainendra Singh.
The event witnessed the participation of eminent academicians, intellectuals, journalists, social workers, students and a large number of distinguished citizens. The gathering collectively reaffirmed its commitment to upholding and strengthening India’s democratic traditions, constitutional values and the protection of citizens’ rights.
