AADHAAR CARDS – DISPATCH STARTS

M. K. Gupta

Unique Identification Authority of India has started dispatch of Aadhaar Cards by speed post and yesterday, I have received the same. Yesterday, I visited the post office at Sector 6, Dwarka and found that thousands of cards were pending for distribution and will soon be delivered. Due to lack of distributing staff, it may take some time. The post office really deserves more staff.

Fortunately, there was no mistake in the card while in the Voter Id, my sex was mentioned as female. The card mentions name, father’s name, address, phone number, year of birth and sex. It is also mentioned that the card is valid throughout the country and it will be helpful in availing govt. and non-govt. services in future. Also, Aadhaar is proof of identity, not of citizenship which is good. It should be authenticated online to establish the identity though this is beyond my comprehension and shall be gratful if any member can give further information on this. The website of the Aadhaar authority as given on card is www.uidai.gov.in. and the helpline number is 1800 180 1947.
