An all women car rally was organised in the national capital here today by various social organisations including Rotary and Innerwheel Club  to mark the International Women’s Day .

More than cars decorated with slogans and balloons driven by women of various ages  from the National Capital Region including Gurugram, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Rohtak and Faridabad participated in the rally . It was flagged of from the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium and culminated at PHD House on Sirifort road .

“International Women’s day is a global festival celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements of women globally . It is also a focal point  in the women’s rights movement bringing attention to issues such as gender equality , reproductive rights and violence against women” said Ms Harpreet Suri, President, Rotary Club of Delhi Ridge participating in the rally.

“This International women’s Day-2022, aims at the theme “GenderEqualityforSustainableTomorrow”.  Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programs,” said Ms Parinita Arora, Vice President, Mahila Pragatisheel and Rotary member .

“With the latest data, we now understand the vital link between gender, social equity and climate change, and recognize that without gender equality today, a sustainable future, an equal future, remains out of reach. Women and girls experience the greatest impacts of the climate crisis as it amplifies existing gender inequalities and puts women’s lives and livelihoods at risk. Across the world, women depend more on, yet have less access to, natural resources, and often bear a disproportionate responsibility for securing food, water, and fuel.” Ms Arora added

“We also pray for global peace and end of conflict between Russia and Ukraine as women and children suffer the most during wars” said Ms Suri.
