Agricultural and Processed Food Products Development Authority (APEDA) an apex agri-trade export promotion body in the country Keeping in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘vocal for local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is showcasing and promoting locally sourced Geographical Indications (GI) tagged as well as indigenous, ethnic agricultural products at the Three day ‘SIAL INDIA’, an international exhibition for food and beverages is being hosted at Yashobhoomi, India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) in Dwarka, New Delhi.
The APEDA pavilion with about GI tagged product export organisations and Farmer Produce Organisation (FPO) participants is showcasing some of ethnic and GI tagged and Millet products exported by India. Under the theme of GI (Geographical Indication) and Millet Products, APEDA aims to highlight the uniqueness and quality of Indian agricultural offerings. The focus will be on promoting products falling under the Geographical Indication category and millet-based products, aligning with the UN’s declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYOM).
The APEDA pavilion was inaugurated by Janusz Wojciechowsksi, Agriculture Commissioner of the European Union, inaugurated the event in the presence of Anita Praveen Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries and Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Development Authority), and Ambassadors from various participating countries.
India, the largest producer of various agricultural products catering to global demands, continues to assert its influence on the international stage. As of 2022-23, India recorded exports valued at approximately US$ 56 Billion, securing the 8th position with a 2.33% share in global agricultural exports. Recognizing the significance of its agricultural contributions,
India, being the second-largest producer of fruits globally, boasts renowned exports like Basmati Rice, valued at around USD 4.79 Billion during 2022-23. Additionally, India’s tropical fruits such as Mango, Banana, Sapota, Pomegranate, and Guava are gaining international acclaim. The country’s agricultural sector, marked by diversity and technological advancements, is witnessing a surge in the export of processed food products, amounting to USD 6.11 Billion during the same period.
