She has a passion for teaching. She is the alumni of Miranda House college and did M.A., M.Phil & Ph.D in English language. The students have high respect for her. She is no other than Dr.Promodini Varma-Principal Bharti College, Janakpuri, Delhi. In an exclusive interview she spoke to S.S.DOGRA, Managing Editor, Dwarka Parichay. Excerpts:

Q. When this college started functioning? Who was the founder chairman?
Ans.
Bharti Mahila College was started in 1971 at Jhandewalan, Karol Bagh(Central Delhi) under the Chairmanship of Sh.L.K.Advani.

Q. When did you join this college?
Ans.
Since its inception in 1971, I joined it.

Q. In which year the college shifted from Karol Bagh to Janakpuri?
Ans.
Bharti College shifted in Janakpuri in 1998.

Q. What is the total area of the campus?
Ans.
It is situated in an area of about 8.6 acres of land with sufficient classrooms, a seminar Hall, Conference Hall, well equipped library.

Q.Mission of Bharti College?
Ans.
We are trying to develop the maximum psychological and intellectual level of the student through our dedicated staff and best possible facilities.

Q. How many courses are available in your college?
Ans.
Our college is offering various degree courses at Bachelor’s and Master’s Levels, We have B.A.(Hons. in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Pol. Science, History), B.Com.(Hons.), B.Com., B.A. besides Self-financing courses in foregn languages such as German, French and Russian, ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels in DOEACC and above all Certificate courses in Journalism. Our college offers career oriented regular Journalism Course.

Q. What are the achievements of your college’s students?
Ans.
Our students have excelled in many fields and become professionals, teachers, politicians, etc.

Q.What are your hobbies?
Ans.
I’m fond of reading and writing.

Q. Have you written any book?
Ans.
I have edited few books like “Fluency in English”,” English at the Work Place”,” Modern Indian Theatre” & two books for McMillan publication besided Destination Guide Books on Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

Q. Why your college is so famous?
Ans.
We are producing better results and the credit goes to my staff members, parents ,students and last but not least then college management.

Q.Are you getting any grant?
Ans.
Yes, recently, we have got a grant of Rs. four lakhs from U.G.C. It’ll be utilized properly for the development of the college and its students.

Q. Do you conduct extra-curricular activities in your college?
Ans.
We have a Drama club “Chilman” founded by Danish Iqbal-Director-NSD. The personality of the students are grooming with the help of theatre, NCC, NSS,NSO, Eco Club,

Q.What are the major Awards for the college students?
Ans.
The Durga Prasad Gaur Memorial Medalin for Hindi Hons. course, The Ram Narain-Raj Kumari Rastogi Smriti Chinha in Sanskrit. The Prabhu Dutt Sharma Memorial Medal,
The R.R.Gupta Memorial Prize & The Shiv-Prabha Award for students who scores highest English Hons.

Q. Who is managing the Journalism course?
Ans.
Under the guidance of Sh.Dina Nath Rai-Senior Journalist who is the Director of Studies & Professional Group of Delhi School of Media, Journalism course is quite popular for the girls.

Q. Name the courses in Journalism?
Ans.
Journalism and Mass Communication, Advertising & Public Relation, Electronic Journalism, Radio & F.M. Radio.

Q. What is the duration of each course?
Ans.
Each course carries three months duration.

Q. What are the objectives of the course?
Ans
. The main objectives of the couses will focus Print Journalism, Cyber Journalism, Mass Communication, Languages skills-Hindi & English, Radio Journalism, Computer Application for Journalism, TV Journalism, and practical Training in Studio.

Q. What about the faculty?
Ans.
As far as the faculty is concerned, the professional and experienced Journalists/professors are teaching.

Q. What are the timings?
Ans.
The classes are held in the afternoon between 2 P.M. to 4.30 P.M.

Q.What kind of infrastructure, your college is providing to run such course?
Ans.
We have in-house training infrastructure with internet connectivity, radio studio sound, editing and mixing & the use of camera in well equipped, professional labs.

Q. Who has designed the Journalism course running in institution?
Ans.
These journalism courses are designed by the advisory committee that includes Mr.Alok Mehta(Editor, Outlook), Mr.Vinod Sharma(Chief of News Bureau-The Hindustan Times), Mr.Manoranjan Bharti(NDTV), Mr.Shams Tahir Khan(Aaj Tak), Mr.Nirmal Pathak(Chief of News Bureau-Dainik Bhaskar), Mr.Parma Nand Pande(Sr.Journalist) & Mr. Anand Pradhan(Asst.Prof. IIMC).

Q. Can a candidate make career in the field after completing the course?
Ans.
Majority of our students are working with reputed media houses.

Q. Is there any scholarship scheme for the students?
Ans.
Yes, it is. 5% seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC students. Four students from economically weaker sections are exempted 50% fee every year.

Q. Who can apply for the said course?
Ans.
A student who has having 55% in 10+2 from a recognised board can apply for this course.
