In the expanding universe of international sports, where emerging disciplines are steadily gaining
recognition, Tanishka Gurjar is rising as one of India’s most promising young talents in
korfball. Representing the nation at the Under-21 level, she has carried India’s aspirations onto
the global stage with confidence, consistency, and determination.
Born into a sports-oriented family, Tanishka inherited her passion for athletics quite naturally.
Her father is a former cricketer, her mother, Saraswati Gurjar, has been an international korfball
player, and her brother Porush represents his state in volleyball. Growing up in such a
competitive and inspiring environment nurtured her sporting instincts and strengthened her
commitment to excellence.
Her breakthrough moment came when she earned the opportunity to represent korfball at the All
India University Games—and the rest is history. From there, she went on to deliver outstanding
performances on international platforms, particularly in Thailand, Malaysia, and Turkey. In these
competitions, she showcased exceptional skill, confidence, and remarkable sportsmanship,
further cementing her reputation as a rising force in Indian korfball.
Making Her Mark Internationally
As a key member of the India U21 national korfball team, Tanishka has competed in prestigious
global tournaments, including the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship and the Asia-Oceania
Championships. According to International Korfball Federation statistics, she has played 13
international matches and scored 11 goals for India—an impressive achievement that highlights
her attacking prowess and competitive temperament.
Facing formidable teams such as Australia U21 and New Zealand U21, she has demonstrated
resilience, tactical intelligence, and composure under pressure. Her performances underline not
only individual brilliance but also a deep understanding of teamwork—an essential element in
korfball.
A Unique Sport, A Unique Talent
Korfball is a distinctive mixed-gender team sport in which men and women compete together on
the same team. Combining elements of basketball and netball, the game demands coordination,
strategy, agility, and mutual respect between players.
Tanishka’s quick reflexes, sharp offensive instincts, and ability to read the game make her a
crucial presence on the court. Observers often admire her balance between aggression and
control—qualities that define athletes capable of performing consistently at the international
level.
Balancing Academics and Athletics
Beyond her sporting achievements, Tanishka remains deeply committed to her academic
journey. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) from the
University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Her academic training in sports science and physical education
enhances her understanding of fitness management, performance optimization, and modern
training methodologies.
Balancing rigorous practice schedules with academic responsibilities is no easy task. Yet, she
exemplifies the modern student-athlete—disciplined, focused, and forward-looking.
A Beacon for Indian Korfball
With initiatives such as the Korfball Premier League (KPL) gradually elevating the sport’s
profile in India, Tanishka’s growing presence at national and international platforms positions
her as a young ambassador of Indian korfball. She represents a new wave of athletes determined
to bring global recognition to emerging sports.
As India broadens its sporting horizons beyond conventional disciplines, athletes like Tanishka
Gurjar symbolize the confidence and potential of a new generation. Her journey reflects
perseverance, balance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
If her upward trajectory continues, Tanishka Gurjar is poised to become one of the defining faces
of Indian korfball on the global sports arena.
