A Huge Rally held for Lokpal bill.

On 4th Dec., 2011 A huge rally in Delhi by the people to protest against the recommendations concerning Lokpal Bill made by the Standing Committee on Law Justice and ……….The rally led by Ms Kiran Bedi started from Samta Sthal opposite Rajghat and went via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Tilak Marg, India Gate, SherShah Road,Mathura Road, Lajpat Nagar, Nehru Place, Okhla and terminated at Tugalakabad where it was addressed by Kiran Bedi and Prashant Bhushan. A good number of people from Dwarka and other West Delhi areas also participated in the rally.

Shri Yashwant Prakash, coordinator IAC, Delhi West, who was also the key member in planning and execution of the rally informed Dwarka Parichay that there is a sense of betrayal amongst people. In August this year, after a 12 days fast by 74 year old Anna, both houses of the parliament passed the resolution to include three issues as asked by Anna and that touched lives of millions of people, namely Lokayutas in states, lower bureaucracy and citizens charter to be included in the Lokpal bill. However, overlooking the unanimous parliament resolution and need of the people the committee has recommended a bill that does not include the lower bureaucracy and Citizens charter under Lokpal jurisdiction. Surprisingly the recommendation of the standing committee on Wednesday 01 Dec to include group C officials (inspectors, accountants, Supervisors etc) was reversed the next day.

Independence and inclusion of anti corruption branch of the CBI in lokpal , protection of whistle blowers and dealing with corruption in judiciary through Lokpal have also been denied.

He further informed that the rally consisted of about 300 Cars, large number of Motor cycles and even Auto Rikshaws that formed a long line of about 3 kilometres and covered about 25 kilometres through the busy roads of Delhi. Unlike any other political procession the rally did not cause any disturbance or traffic inconvenience to the normal commuters. Through out the route rally progressed in a single lane constantly being helped and monitored by the traffic marshal volunteers.

The large turn out of people ,energy and gusto displayed indicate that far from the propaganda, people are keenly watching the proceedings concerning Lokpal Bill and are in no mood to allow politicians to get away giving with yet another ineffective, puppet organisation in the name of Lokpal that would incur huge expenditure from the hard earned money of people in the name of preventing corruption. The IAC movement is now preparing for a symbolic one day fast on 11th Dec at Jantar Mantar to persuade the government to listen to the people and give the country a strong, independent and effective Lokpal to arrest corruption.
