Birgunj, Nepal – 15 August 2025:
The Consulate General of India in Birgunj transformed into a vibrant hub of patriotism today as it celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with grandeur, enthusiasm and heartfelt Indo-Nepal camaraderie.
The celebration began with the hoisting of the Indian National Flag by Consul General Devi Sahai Meena, followed by the stirring rendition of the National Anthem, setting an inspiring tone for the day. Consul General Meena then read out the Independence Day address of Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, highlighting the nation’s remarkable journey, its enduring challenges, and its vision for a progressive future.
The event’s cultural segment was a kaleidoscope of patriotism, with students from over 13 schools and colleges of Birgunj presenting soul-stirring songs, energetic dances, and thematic performances celebrating national pride, sportsmanship, and the fight against terrorism.
The occasion drew an esteemed gathering, including Consuls Manish Das, Satish Pattapu, Sanjay Kumar, and Ajay Jain; Mayor of Birgunj Rajesh Man Singh; social activist Ashok Kumar Baidhya; Prabin Mainali (Central Vice President, Nepal India International Friendship Society); and Nippu Sarraf, MD of Anmol Food and President, District Working Committee, Makwanpur, among other dignitaries.
Adding a literary touch, Prof. S.S. Dogra—senior journalist, author, and media educator from Delhi—presented two of his authored books to Consul General Meena.
The celebration’s significance was further enhanced by its alignment with the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, reinforcing themes of unity, collaboration, and shared progress. With Consul Manish Das seamlessly anchoring the proceedings, the event concluded on a note of warmth, mutual respect, and strengthened bonds between India and Nepal.
