1st March,2012.New Delhi. Ministers of Agriculture Shri H S Rawat and Dr Charan Das Mahanta inaugurated the 29th edition of three-day IARI Annual Krishi Vigyan Mela which saw visitors from all over the country even as over 200 stalls displayed the latest in agri-developments whether it be seed or environmental-friendly farming technologies. IARI has been organizing the annual mela since 1972. The theme of this year’s mela scheduled to be held from March 1 to 3, 2012 “Prosperity through Innovative Farm Technologies”.
The technologies developed by IARI on the major theme have been displayed in thematic pandals. Besides IARI, state agricultural universities, ICAR institutes, private and public sector undertakings, NGOs/societies and progressive farmers are participating in the mela to display their technologies for the benefit of the farming community.

More than 200 stalls will be erected to display the technologies. Like previous years, over one lakh visitors from different parts of the country comprising farm men, farm women, students, extension workers, entrepreneurs and others are expected to visit the mela.
The Mela attracts a large number of Urban visitors too as latest in floriculture, vegetable gardening are shown and excellent quality stuff like pickles, honey, herbal medicines are on sale.

The major attractions of the mela are like Live demonstrations on scientific crop production technologies of rabi cereals, oilseeds, pulses, vegetables and flowers, Organised farmers’ visits to experimental fields of IARI, Technologies for protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers for higher returns, Display and sale of farm machinery and equipments by IARI, public and private organizations; Display and sale of fertilizers, bio-fertilizers and agro-chemicals by different public and private agencies, Free-of-cost soil and water testing; Sale of seeds of HYVs of crops, saplings and seedlings by IARI and other public and private organizations, Exhibition and sale of value added products by farmers, Direct interaction among scientists, farmers and agro-industry personnel.
