The Parkash Purab marks the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the founder of Sikhism. This is one of the most sacred festival of Sikhs and this year it will be celebrated on 23-11-2018. Guru ji’s teachings laid the foundation on which Sikhism was formed. Guru Nanak Dev ji was born in the village Rai-Bhoi-di-Talwandi (now called Nankana Sahib), near Lahore, Pakistan in 1469.
Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji showed us the path of peace and harmony. His message of devotion to God and excellence of conduct can help us in transforming the society.
Guru ji taught that every human being is capable of attaining spiritual perfection, which will lead them to God. He also said that rituals are not required inorder to have direct access to Almighty. In his teachings Guru ji emphasised that God has created many worlds and also created life. In order to feel presence of God, Guru ji emphasised on NAAM JAPNA (remembering the God by singing the hymns and focusing the mind on His name), VAND CHHAKNA (sharing one’s earning to others, giving to charity and caring poors), KIRT KARNA (earning an honest living) etc.
