Indian Pest Control Association (IPCA) , the apex body of pest control companies across the country has met the Commissioner Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council in New Delhi and urged the council to change the category of pest control industry from present disinfectant to Disinfestation as wrong categorization is taking toll on the industry in India and abroad.
“Pest control industry has been clubbed under Chapters SAC Codes 998531 under DISINFECTANT category of Cleaning services which primarily caters to cleaning of window glasses, underground and overhead water tanks etc. Whereas DISINFESTATION is synonymous in India with ‘Pest Control’, world over it is known as ‘Pest management services’. Basic difference between Disinfectant and Disinfestations is that while the former is cleaning services for ‘things’ such as property management and upkeep, Housekeeping services, the latter is concerned with ‘live’ Pests / Insects., said Mr Shishir Sharma, Executive member , Indian Pest Control Association,(IPCA) who led the delegation to Commissioner GST Dheeraj Rstogi.
“Our pest control products and services directly affect the basic health of the citizens in preventing diseases and epidemics, such as Rat and Rodent control in Agriculture Fields, Food Grain Stores, Food Processing Factories and residences which helps in preventing diseases like Leptospirosis;Eradication of Cockroaches crawling insects and bed bugs from Hotels, Factories, Food Joints, Food Processing units, Residences to fight Cholera, Typhoid, Dysentery, and Killing of larvae and mosquitoes in stagnant waters by spraying of pesticides, Larvaecide, Fogging to fight Malaria, Dengue, Chikunguniya, Yellow fever;” said Mr Sharma.
