Driving License, Power connection, Birth or Death Certificate, Domicile certificate are among the 32 services that Delhiites will get within a specified time from today. Delhi Right to Citizen to Time Bound Delivery of Services Act 2011 came into force from today. Seen as a major reform in service delivery mechanism initiated by the Delhi Government, the legislation fixes financial penalty in the range of 10 rupees to 200 rupees a day to the officials failing to respond to citizens’ plea within the stipulated time-frame. 32 services concerning general public have been brought under its coverage. Another 40 services will be included in a month. Delhi Chief Secretary P K Tripathi said the government has made all preparations to implement the law. The government has also directed the departments to prepare citizens’ charter which will be put up in the reception areas in the offices as well as on the websites.

Almost all the government departments including Revenue, Food and Civil Supplies, Transport and Trade and Taxes as well as civic agencies MCD and NDMC have been brought under the legislation. Delhi has also become the first state to have e- monitoring system where citizens can track their applications and check for delays online.
