Sahyadri celebrated Onam, the national festival of Kerala on 9th September. Once upon a time the God’s Own Land , Kerala was the capital of all the tree Worlds namely, , Heaven, Earth and Hell. The legendary King of King Mahabali, an Asura Emperor, was the Samrat. Everybody was happy in his empire; there was no discrimination on the basis of caste and creed. There was no crime, no corruption, no thieves, no poverty, sorrow or disease.
An equitable perfect Ramarajya as dreamed by our Great Mahatma. Devas, the Gods became afraid of their own existence. They assembled and send Lord Vishu as Vamana, a Brahmin who requested for small piece of land that could be covered by three steps of his small legs. Maveli, the Emperor agreed. Vamana started growing gigantically. Heaven, Earth and Hell were over in two steps. On the third step the beloved Emperor of fascinating Kerala was pushed into Narak. This noble Emperor will visit Kerala once a year. This day is celebrated as Onam.
Onam celebrations involve elaborate meal consisting of several vegetarian dishes served on banana leaves. This is followed by recreationalactivities, dancing and Onam Songs. Sahyadri is celebrating this grand festival for the eighth consecutive year. The committee consisting of Bindu Warrier, Pramila Pramod, Geetha Devi, Prakash Menon, T A Thomas and Thomas V Thomas gave leadership to organizing the celebrations.
