Pride of Dwarka- Lakshmi Krishnan


Lakshmi Krishnan is a qualified social worker having done her masters in social work from the prestigious Delhi school of social work nearly four decades ago.

After having worked as a school social worker for 4 years, she accepted a very challenging job at a very young age to run a adoption centre of SOS children ‘s villages of India where during her 20 years of service she looked after nearly two thousand abandoned babies and placed them in adoption.

The plight of Unmarried mother’ s having to part with their newborn babies due to social stigma attached motivated her to start a NGO 20 years ago by the name society for the promotion of women and child welfare (SPOWAC)

SPOWAC works in the field of women and children Belonging to the most vulnerable population. All aspects related to the welfare and development of women and children are given importance. The main focus is on skill development, micro insurance and micro finance, environment, art and culture, health and legal issues.

Lakshmi krishnan is a member of various central and state government committees in the field of public health, legal, adoption and ethical committees. She has won many awards and accolades.
