09 November 2013 was a memorable day for Sapna Anil Attavar, Bharatanatyam danseuse from Dwarka. Sapna enthralled a 100 strong visiting Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Xu Xiao, Secretary, Central Committee, and Communist Youth League of China. Sapna was invited by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports to participate in a cultural programme at the magnificent banquet hall at Hotel Ashok, Chanakyapuri. The exchange of youth delegations is taken up on a reciprocal basis for promoting exchange of ideas, values and culture amongst youth of different countries and also to foster international understanding. This is the eighth Youth Exchange Programme organized with China.
Recognizing the language barrier, Sapna chose to perform to instrumental music, as music and dance transcend all barriers of language, creed, caste and community. Titled ‘FUSION’, the dance explained the Treasure of Mother Nature, our greatest Teacher. Sapna welcomed the five major Elements that control the Cosmic Universe, viz. Earth, Fire, Air, Water and Sky known in the Vedas as the “Panch Bhootas”.
With her graceful movements and expressive eyes, Sapna described how animals, birds and flowers enjoy the vibrant powers of Mother Nature. The dance concluded with grateful thanks to the beautiful gift of Mother Nature, teaching us that we need to preserve Mother Nature – AT ANY COST.
