A Vishesh Kirtan Sammagam (special devotional congregation) was held at Gurdwara Sahib Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sector 11, Dwarka, New Delhi, on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The event honored the 100th martyrdom anniversary of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, a prominent social reformer and principal architect of the Gurdwara Reform Movement.
The congregation featured a soul-stirring recital of Holy Gurbani Kirtan by Bhai Satnam Singh (Gurdaspur Wale), Hazoori Raagi of Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the grandson of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, the Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjeet Singh Sandhu; Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Member of Parliament (West Delhi); Shri Sandeep Sehrawat, MLA (Matiala).
Also in attendance were office-bearers and members of the Dwarka Gurdwara Sahib Management Committee, including S. Kuldeep Singh – President, S. Davinder Paul Singh -Secretary, and S. Arvinder Singh Chhatwal -Treasurer.
Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant Governor recalls that Sardar Teja Singh Samundri remains one of the most revered leaders of the gurdwara reform movement and played a central role, in shaping the affairs of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) during its formative years. He further highlighted that the legendary scholar Bhai Vir Singh had hailed him as a supreme, holy martyr, (Param Pavitar Shaheed).
He added that the Sardar Teja Singh Samundri Hall in the Sri Darbar Sahib Complex, Amritsar stands as the only building named after an ordinary Sikh, reflecting the immense esteem in which his memory continues to be held by the Panth.
Lieutenant Governor stressed the need to educate the younger generation about our rich history and heritage. “We must learn from the life, struggles, and sacrifices of Sardar Teja Singh Samundari, and continue to serve both society and the nation,” he said.
Emphasizing that education is of utmost importance, he added that Gurdwara committees should actively work to impart quality education.
