BROKEN DUSTBINS DUMPED AT MARKET SITE

Arvinder Chhatwal

At the time of handing over/taking over of the charge for solid waste management of the entire Dwarka sub-city between Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on 21.04.2005, MCD was allowed to use a site measuring 2300 sqm by DDA in Sector-8, Dwarka for one year on purely temporary basis.

However, for the last several years, this site is being used by MCD for storage of old and broken dustbins with full of garbage and rain water. That results foul smell engulfs in the locality and the area becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Under the circumstances, the residents are bound to live in unhealthy/ unhygienic conditions. There is every possibility of spreading chronic diseases such as Malaria, Viral fever etc. The Area RWA has addressed several letters to concerned MCD officials, even than no action has been taken by MCD for removal of these old/ broken dustbins.

It is understood that the said plot is earmarked by DDA for construction of Local Shopping Centre. The location of this site is on the main road of Sector-8 at the crossing of Blocks A&B near Mother Dairy Booth.

Keeping in view of the serious nature of the problem, you are hereby requested to kindly publish the grievance in your esteemed newspaper and take up this matter with the senior MCD officials for removal of old and broken dustbins from this site.
