Beijing Olympics bronze medallist boxer Vijender Singh was on Thursday adjudged the ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ by the Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA), which celebrated its annual awards function here.
Veteran wrestling coach Mahavali Satpal was given the Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to the sport.
Junior Indian hockey team coach Harendra Singh was presented the Coach of the Year award fro guiding the Indian colts to a World Cup win after 15 years. Promising cricketer Rishabh Pant was given the Emerging Player of the Year award for his exploits in the domestic circuit this season.
The website of the sports journalist body “www.dsjasports.in” was also launched in the event. Many former journalists were awarded for their contribution to the field of sports, namely Harpal Singh Bedi, Roshan Sethi, Veturi Srivatsa, Kewal Kaushik, K.Datta, Jagannath Rao, K.P. Mohan, S. Santana, Ashutosh Rai, Manoj Chatuvedi, Kuldip Lal, Arun Jain, Kuldip Rathore, Suresh Kaushik
DSJA President Chander Shekhar Luthra, in his address said that the organisation has also agreed to go by the Justice R.M. Lodha Committee’s recommendations, which it will implement in the next elections due in the next couple of months.
